I agree 100% (I'm from Detroit). Cops there are not too easy about folks going into the trunk to get ANYTHING! I still live by those rules even though I live somewhere else now. LOL
I'd prefer to not make the cop nervous at all. I turn off the engine and radio, roll down all windows, turn on my dome light, and have my hands in plain site, and then politely ask for permission to open the glovebox when they ask for info.
This is the best way to get on a cop's good side. One of my bro's works for DPD and agrees with all of this!
edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention: Voluntarilly telling them you have a pistol on you without them finding out the hard way helps too!
