Next Gen Wish/Fix-it list

Title says it all, what would you wish for in the next generation Mustang and what needs to be fixed on the current car by the next generation.

Personally I'd want;
  • IRS/SRA compatible chassis - can keep the struts up front, I like the simplicity and ruggedness of the design.
  • lighter weight - around 3300 to 3400 pounds or a bit lighter, but I think that would be unrealistic.
  • Much better brakes - why is it stock brakes always seem inadequate?

The answer is simple, better brakes cost more $$ and only a small # of customers appreciate the difference and would be willing to pay for better brakes.

I would like to see the option list expanded, interior and perfomance. Let us pick and chose what we want to pay for

Probably the opposite will happen from what we've heard.

Less options, more standard stuff.
Few big options (glass roof, wheels etc)

Ford just announced that is was drastically reducing the model / option combinations. Boomer is correct, if anything there will be fewer options. That's good news, becasue option packages are usually priced lower than the sum of their parts.

Maybe the rear suspension, but I love the present car. It's simple, cheap, powerful, gorgeous, I really can't argue with anything. Besides, Any car I buy, I'm going to mod, so I dont want to pay extra for stuff that's going to be replaced anyway.

Wonder if they will do it like GM did in the 80's and 90's, IIRC to get the 3rd gen Z, you basically went for the loaded model.

Lol, I could see it now; Optional Polished Bullitt Wheels ($5,999.99), includes navigation system, heated seats, my color instument panel, faux' aluminum interior accents, ambient lighting, sirius satellite radio, active anti-theft, wheel locks, shaker 1000 stereo, Leather Interior.

As a GT500 owner I have just two requests.
1- Fix the hop.
2- The FRPP handling package should standard on all mustangs (GT and up at least)

HAHA, my only wish for the next gen at the moment is to take off the camo!

As for the IRS, I think it should stay a live axle, I personally won't be taking my car road racing, but it will probably see quite a bit of time at the strip!

Not really.....

If Ford were to keep the same calipers, but increase the rotors to 13" and put new pads on the car the cost would be minimal.

My wish list:
-6 speed manual option
-Improved Seats. The leather is pretty cheap and the seats have minimal bolstering. Instead of the lumbar option that I don't use, how about inflatable side bolsters!
-Stability control
-Remove the **** antenna up front and integrate it into the rear window. Pretty much every new car has this
-Improved interior materials. This should be pretty easy to fix.
-Heated Seats. The newer Stangs have this option, but it wasn't available in 2005.

Give me a standard power passenger seat and it will make it easier to convince a short passenger person that I need a new car. I think that some refinement is necessary in the new model . Many of us older types would prefer a grand touring type vehicle rather than a down and dirty racer.

This may seem stupid but I would like to see a seatback memory again (when you put the front seat forward to access the back and it moves back to the same position). Drives me crazy. Had it on my '98, gone on my '05, '06, & '08. Grrr.

Regarding the brakes, I would say I fall into the category of an average consumer and yes, I notice they STINK. And the upgraded FRPP pads on the Bullitt make no difference at all.

Regarding the seats, the upgraded seats in the Bullitt are a HUGE difference from my '05/'06, I swear my seat feels like a barcalounger in comparison. Should be in all the Mustangs. And speaking of seats, they can put the seatbelt retainers back on the seatback anytime they want

Regarding more options - personally I'm just not an "option" person with cars to begin with. I listen to the radio/CD and use heat/AC and that's about it. Coming from that point of view I guess I appreciate not having the additional cost of design, etc for additional options.

I'm sure I'll think of more stuff later....Sounds like ranting but overall I have loved all my Mustangs, especially the Bullitt

Saving $6 in cost per vehicle is a HUGE deal in the auto business. @ 150,000 Mustangs / year, that's $1m in more profit.

You would not believe the time and effort spent to save 50 cents here and 50 cents there on every vehicle.

Ford could pass that $6 onto the consumer. That's a drop in the bucket when you are buying a $30,000+ car. I don't think you will find many people complaining about Ford putting money into a safety system.

Forgot about the seats. Yes, they are sorely needed, when I hit my favorite on ramp in the 55-60 mph range I've got to brace my feet and angle by posterior so I'm not curled into a ball bearing against the driverside door.

stab control should be standard here on out, IIRC its a federal mandate that goes into effect now or briefly in the future.

You planning on the new 135i? I would really like one of those too, but the nearest BMW dealer is over 200 miles away...so servicing it wouldn't be too fun. I heard they aren't extremely reliable in general either.

If the 2010 Mustangs are bare bones, I would be looking at a 5 series of couse keeping my 07 which is paid for.

Hell not sure what I will do

edit: BMW= Bring My Wallet!
