New vs Used and prices?

To start out, this is my first post and I am looking to join the Mustang community soon. I plan on buying a base auto Mustang GT with the intention of doing performance mods like suspension and bolt ons. I know what I want but am not sure weather or not to go used or new. I originally planned on going used as I am open to a 2011-13 GT and wanted to spend around 20k but I'm finding that many used 5.0s are highly priced compared to new ones. In addition there were only a handful used within about 100 miles of me. One dealer wanted around 30k for a used 2011 premium GT with 35,000 miles. I did a quick search on some new ones and easily found a few base auto 5.0s (which is all I want) for around 25k. I looked on the Ford website and it looks like I can probably get about $4,000 in rebates putting a new 5.0 at around 21-22k. It seems like for a few thousand more I will be able to get a brand new car vs one with 20-30k miles. What are your thoughts and opinions on this? Any advice appreciated! I also forgot to add that I won't be buying for 2-3 months.

You won't get a new 5.0 for $21-22k; the prices of $25k-$26k are the absolute bottom you'll see, and that's including all the rebates.

I debated the same thing but the difference in price for used 2011/2012 vs new 2014 was minimal. If you can afford it do the new one

I was just on the website of the dealer I bought my Mustang at and they had two base model GT's with automatics as the only option for about $26,850. This is cheaper than the $28,400 I paid for the same car back in August of 13. I couldn't get them to go any lower back then.

There is also a 2013 GT Premium at a local chevy dealer for $29,900 with only 1,000 miles on it. This car also has the GT500 exhaust on it. This car's original sticker price was $36,685. Whoever is trying to sell a 2011 GT Premium for $30,000 with that kind of mileage on it is trying to rip people off.

If you are finding base model GT's for $25,000, they already have the rebates and discounts taken off the price. The sticker price on my base model 14 GT with the automatic was $32,740 and the newer base model 14 GT's with automatic are at around $32,850.

The current rebates will expire at the end of the month - but they will either be renewed or perhaps even better starting on 1 April. The end of production for the current S197 generation will be in June, but I'd suspect you'll still be able to find base versions in May/June/July - but you might have to look harder or travel farther from home base to find them....

IF you are waiting 2-3 months you might as well wait another 2-3 and try to get a 2014 that will then have been sitting around for 6+ months and the then newly introduced 2015's will have the prices dropped even more.

I just bought my 2010 a little over a month ago and I also saw the brand new bare bones GT's for $25K they were all completely stripped deluxes and had all rebates known to man figured into that price. I was finding 2011-2012's GT premiums with around 20K miles for a little less than that around the country every now and then.

I don't know about other area's of the country, but I just came across a 2013 CS with 9k on it for under $29k. Made me wonder if buying new was such a good idea.

If it is still available you can see it here.

Edit: Well was there last night, but gone this morning. Must have sold yesterday. Do see they have a 14 GT vert for under $30k with 26,000 miles.

I don't think you could even get a Camaro SS that cheap new back in 2000. Nothing wrong with lightly used, especially if it has the desired options.

Totally worth going new if you plan to keep the car for at least 4-5 years, just for the peace of mind that it hasn't been ragged out or hit. I figure my $41,365 car (which I paid $34,478 for) is probably worth about $24k on trade today, 4 days after I bought the car, lol.

I just purchased a 13 premium with nav and the pony package. It has 25k, one owner, and a clean Carfax. I paid $22k out the door with taxes, doc fees, and registration. It was about but he same price as a 14 base. Id much rather have a premium over the hase any day. Leather, sync, and my color are well worth it. Don't really use the track apps at all.

That's probably about as good as its going to get. You might be able to score a 12-13 premium for about the same price as a new base. The biggest thing that made me go used over new was the interest through Ford. To get all the rebates you have to finance through Ford. Their interest rate was 8% which is ridiculous. I have a 730 fico. The used they were able to get me under 2%.

That's BS a new rate is never higher than a used rate, all things bring equal....you could have gotten 1.9 to 2.9 for 60 months for a new car with that FICO.

Just FYI, the rebates on the Mustang (at least the ones that just ended) were NOT tied to Ford credit. I assumed I needed to finance through Ford to get the rebates but my sales guy said that wasn't the case. On top of that Ford beat my credit union's interest rate and gave me 2.24% on a 72 month (credit union's best rate on 72 was 2.49%).
