New Autocross Shoes for the 5.0 - Enkei PF01 w/ 285/35 Hankook RS3's

I'm going to try to take down my first divisional championship at the SCCA South Eastern Divisional championships this weekend. Who knows if I'll be able to do it, but I'm sure going to try. I decided to finally drop the cash on these bad boys to increase my chances. The wheels are Enkei PF01 18 x 9.5 with 45 offset. The tires are Hankook R-S3's in 285/35/18. Today my alignment shop slotted the Koni Sport struts to give me some extra camber, and the front is dialed in at -2.8. I'll post up the results from this weekend on Sunday night when I get home from Moultrie, GA. Wish me luck.

Nice wheel and tire combo. I have the Hankook RS3's for my Miata for autocross use, but on the Mustang I'm running 265/40 Dunlop Star Specs on 9" wide Enkei RPF1's. What class are you in?

It looks like the tires are mounted on the wrong sides of the car since they are directional. It will matter more in the wet than in the dry.

In the pics they are backwards, but I've fixed them. I was dog tired when I put them on and didn't notice it. I went back and fixed them the same day. I generally run in ESP and will lock up the Atlanta Region class championship the first weekend in August. At SEDiv I'm running in STU because nobody else signed up for ESP.

Yeah, I wish I could have the grip of wider wheels and tires like you've got, but I'm limited to 265mm wide tires and 9" wide wheels in STX. There a good group of guys locally to race against in STX, and the Mustang is a whole lotta fun on course.

I'm going with the same 265 Hankook RS-3 for NASA time trials group B next year -- similarly limited in width by rules (or points choices I've made, pick your poison) but hope the RS-3 will be sticky enough to make up for the relatively narrow tire. They seem to be the tire to go with, though, as GRM did a test (on a Miata, though) and it did quite well, especially given the essentially bargain-basement pricing, though that has gone up recently.

Where did you source the Enkei's? I think I'll be going for the TSW Interlagos in the same size, it's about the same weight but at least $50 per wheel cheaper. Those Enkei's are tempting, though.

What gear ratio do you have? Are you concerned about having to shift between 2nd & 3rd with the smaller circumference wheels?

I got the wheels from Sam Strano. I almost went with TSW's but if I was already going to spend over $1,000 for wheels I figured I should just buy once and cry once to get the ones I really wanted.

I've got 3.73's. For most Atlanta region courses, I won't need 3rd gear because by the time you've wound the car out to 7400, it's time to get back on the brakes and turn. We've only had one course this year in 6 events where I had to go to 3rd (and boy was that awesome!). This weekend's event I fully expect to have to go to 3rd because of where the event is and who the course designer is. I'm pretty sure I would have had to have gone to 3rd this weekend regardless of tire/wheel choice.

Extremely nice!! The wheel style is similar to the Brembo package wheels, which makes them automatically awesome..

How much do they weigh?

Have you had a chance to autox on your stock setup? If so, it would be really interesting to hear how the car compares before/after.

I'm running the 18 x 9.5 (35mm offset) fronts and 18 x 10.5 rears. The fronts weigh 20 lbs. and rears are 21 lbs.

That's actually a good diameter tire to run on, it' slightly under stock so it gives you more pick up..
The factory 302R comes with even smaller dia & a 3.73 rear:

At the end of day 1, I was a little more than .9 seconds behind first place. Here's the miracle run I needed on Sunday to bring home 1st place. I ended up winning by over a second which was almost a 2 second swing in one day. I just went for it, and the car did not disappoint.

About 1.5 turns from full soft on front and about .75 turns from full soft. I needed the car to rotate a bit on that course.

bump from the past. Did you need hub centric rings to make these seat properly? Any issues with the center caps fitting? Doesn't look like it, but don't know if you modified them in any way to make them fit.

Nope. Took the wheels out of the box, had the tires mounted, and put them on the car with no modifications.

302R also has a different trans though.
