Also, I own an 09 Escape Hybrid (wife's car) that has the electric power steering. I actually like it, but am not sure how it will translate to a sports car. I have not noticed any disadvantages to the system in the Escape, but then again I have not exactly pushed it to it's limits on a track either. Daily driving is a pleasure though, and is a very easy system to get along with.

For those that may bring up the issue of electrical or component failure, it is my understanding that the system is still mechanically linked from the wheels to the steering wheel. Any failure of the electrical components will only affect the power steering assist. You would still be able to steer the car, it just might require a little more effort at the steering wheel.

This is good news, and about what had been speculated. HP is just under the '10 GT so as to not cannibalize sales. I'm guessing the late availability of the V6 Performance Package is for the same reason--so '10 GTs don't sit unsold. I can't wait to see if the Coyote does hit the projected 400 HP.

The question I have (at the risk of sounding sexist) is the V6 now considered a "guy" car, too?

Yeah, for 5 days, until the new 5.0L gets revealed at the LA autoshow. Then it gets demoted back to girl car. (Kidding kidding.. I respect the 6.. )

Ok, this V6 makes 1HP & 7 lb/ft more than the Camaro V6.

So basically, Ford have matched (and slightly bettered) the Camaro's output in the same light platform. As we all now know, the Camaro V6 will be no match for the Mustang V6. Weight being the key performance benefit here.

But...

If Ford have 'matched' the Camaro like-for-like in the V6. I would also like to think that they are going to do EXACTLY the same thing with the V8 GT. That really would stick two fingers up at the Camaro big time. What if Ford do give the Mustang 5.0 litre a 425HP output as opposed to the 400HP we are all hoping for!?

Some of us are saying 360HP to 365HP is likely - I say not enough!

I want at least 400HP. If Ford can deliver this much HP out of the box. I will be very happy.

But, what if Ford DO decide to match the Camaro SS and give us a whopping 425HP GT. I will be ecstatic (and saving hard!). Again, the lighter weight Mustang will trounce the flabby Camaro with the same power output. It would be a phenomenal occasion for Mustang lovers everywhere!

Ford, bring it on!

Cheers

Check out where these peak numbers are....The peak torque for the mustang is almost 1,000rpm sooner than the comaro. You get a little more a lot sooner in the mustang. The base camaro just got smoked, and the 370Z might be feeling a little bit of pressure from a v6 mustang hanging too close.......

Mother of God!

I'm seriously going to put my Lightning up for sale next week to get ready to purchase the GT if it turns out being true.

Do you honestly think it matters?
400hp is more than enough to put a hurt on Camaro if it weighs under 3650...

I'd be more interested in seeing what it can DO, rather than just a bragging #.

Don't worry, the GT is getting just as much attention as the GT....we're in good hands.

When people start modding the new engines.... goodnight

Why . . . are people that vain with their HP numbers?

I have no burning desire to run out and slap a supercharger on my Mach. I am in the 12s and I haven't even touched the drivetrain, no tune, no cai, stock gears.

That being said I am excited to see what the 2011 Mustangs will run and dyno. Should be an extremely good year for the Pony!!
