New 2014 - A couple of questions
Hi Forum Members,
Just picked up my 2014 V6 last week. Came from a Chrysler 200, and man I'm diggin' the American muscle! I didn't order anything fancy on my V6, other than the fog lights and auto transmission (wife refuses to learn manual). Was wondering if there are any affordable solutions for an in-dash multimedia/nav system. Additionally, I've noticed that there is a "thud" noise when pressing the gas sometimes and a somewhat rough idle. The car only has 450 miles on it, so I didn't know if this is something that would go away as the car "learns" my driving style. Hope you all are having a great New Year!

Welcome to TMS. Check out the 10-14 Interior and audio section. A bunch of guys have added aftermarket head units, audio systems etc. You will even see a number of custom tablet and/or iPad installs. Good luck!
Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the Mustang. As far as the tranny mine hasn't had a thud since new. It may clear up, give a few more miles. If it doesn't take her back to the dealer, and don't let him tell you it's normal. If it's normal then all of us that have auto's would have a thud. Enjoy.
BTW, if you need help with your dealer contact Deysha, our resident angel and Ford customer rep. on the forum.

This may sound like a dumb answer to your "thud" issue, but you might check and see if there is anything loose in the back floorboard or the trunk, especially if you're taking off a little faster than normal. The reason I'm suggesting that is because I had an irritating rattle once, until I figured out it was the passenger side seat belt buckle hitting the door panel every time I took off. Another thing you might keep in mind if this continues is the TSB on the lower control arms. They typically produce a "clunk" when you take off or roll over an uneven surface like a speed bump or a driveway entrance. Just something to have in your arsenal if it doesn't go away and you have to go to the dealer.
Regarding the rough idle: My car is a 2012 GT, and I've learned that the Coyote engine is a bit cold-natured. It takes it a few minutes to get warmed up. I've experienced rough idle on mine many times, but it's always been in cold weather (plus I have that darned notchy shifting with the MT82 when the engine is cold). If it's REALLY cold, I'll let the engine warm up for 10 minutes or so before I leave the house.
I hope that's of some value to you. Drive carefully.

Welcome to the forum! My name is Deysha with Ford Service. I’m not able to help with the Nav system, but you should have your dealer check out the thud noise, and let me get this to the customer service manager for your area. Please, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can get it escalated for you.

In regards to the idle, the weather has been cold, so there might be a correlation there. I also did the idle "relearn" today, and will see if that helps!
Again, thanks for the response, I'm really digging the member community here.

I have this ipad mini mount on order:
https://themustangsource.com/f803/te...et-mod-526199/
It is magnet mount with no external mods.
My take on this is that no in dash system is going to keep up with the updates in the tablet ecosystem. By the time a new nav feature is implemented the next Waze will already be on the tablet. The rate of change in music apps especially connected ones just will not make it to a car specific system over time. There are even apps that will connect to OBD via bluetooth.
While you can currently find most of these features in an in dash system, I can just imagine how quaint that state-of-the-art interface will look in 10 years. Magnet mount for ipad mini? just pull it off and move on to the next thing.
There are a lot of opinions on these things. This is just another set of data points for you.

Another option for a Nav/stereo update is the iDatalink Maestro dash kit and steering wheel control module with a compatible Kenwood GPS head unit. See the threads in the interior and audio section. Of course you should replace the cheap stock speakers too, but this won't be cheap, likely 2 to 3x more $$ than the iPad solution.
Just another option.
Is your thud when shifting something that happens all the time, or only when it's cold?
If your wife puts the car in gear while you are next to it in the driveway, can you hear it more clearly and isolate the source? Could it be the driveshaft?
Have you checked the fluid level of the trans after warming up?
Just another option.

Thanks for the alternative option, I'll definitely check the interior/audio threads for more information. I've been browsing these forums for days now - what a wealth of information! It's funny you mention the speakers, as that was my initial complaint with the car - awful sound quality. I'll also look in the audio section to see what people recommend for new speakers. I feel bad replacing parts on a brand new car, though!
In regards to the thud, it happens quite often (not all the time), although it has seemed to have dissipated as I drive the car more. It isn't when I put the car in gear, but rather when it is shifting from gear to gear. Or, if I'm cruising around 45 - 50 MPH, let my foot off of the gas, then hit the gas again. When I "hit the gas again", this is when the thud happens.
With regards to tablets and nav systems, here is my solution. Mind you, my wife says that given a wire hangar and a role of duct tape I could fix anything.

I used a web strap that is about 3/4" wide and made two loops with a little needle and thread work. The white bits are hefty twist ties that secured some things in a shipment I received. They are secured around the straps and then slipped into the heater vents and their length is just right to keep the audio system display visible. I have a Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet with a DeviceWear Ridge case and it is running a nav app named Sygic. The tablet (without being removed from its case) slips into the web strap loops and can be quickly removed for a lunch stop when traveling. We used this setup on a 5,200 mile round trip to Texas for Christmas and it worked like a champ.
