The '09 was given a sneek peek at NAIAS to those on the dealer design board with Ford and they almost unanimously disliked what Ford had come up with compared to what Dodge (Challenger) and Chevy (Camaro) had at the show. Very underwhelmed as I was told. There have been several '09's spotted at Roush that are under development.
Not saying this is untrue...

But wondering to what extent if any...roush has 09s.
Engine/parts developement maybe, but I'd have no doubt that they would be in 05 bodies...
This will be a reskin, not a whole new platform...minor updates compared to the 05 overall...and with over 2.5 years before the 09 hits...I can't see that... not in skinned form....

As for the preview... we'll have to see...
And its not like its a change that can't be made.
I doubt the design would be locked until next year some point...

Here's my contact's response to that:

There are no 09's outside of our Design Center.

I really like the S197 Mustangs but my biggest complaint from a styling perspective has always been the car's lack of 'haunches.' As a restorer and owner of a '65 Mustang GT fastback, it was one of the major oversights made in the new car's styling IMO - so much so that it has kept me from actively wanting to replace my '01 Bullitt. If Ford DOES bring them back on the freshened S197, it would certainly fix the only major styling drawback I had with the current car.

As for the roofline and B-pillars, I hope they leave them as is. I would think it would be too costly to give the car a new roof and/or B-pillar design as they would most likely have to spend more money on crash testing, develop new interior trim panels, new glass, etc. Look at the '98 - '99 roofline; it was left as-is despite the rest of the car changing to reflect the New Edge styling direction.

I will definitely keep my eyes glued to this forum as information about the freshening continues to be discovered.

Can't wait for spy shots, artists renderings and news on the mechanicals of the car. Keep it coming, Brad!!

Here is a chop I did shortly after the production 05 was released. It appeared in the Photoshops forums, but I couldn't find it to link to.
We know it should only be a reskinning as was the 98-99 switch, I would wager to guess that the roofline will remain the same, don't know about front and rear, as lights, bumpers an grills are relatively easy to change, replace, or modify. I really would hope that Ford would also continue the sconce across the top body line as well, as 99-04 and historical Mustangs have. I feel it just gives the body a little more dimension.
Ignore the ducktail on the chop, I just couldn't find my chop without it.

I like that!! I would like to see the "hips" a little more pronounced and quarter windows similar to the '69 - '70 cars. I'd prefer the pronounced side scallop on your design over fake side scoops.

That's exactly what the '05 should have looked like.
And lowering the height of the door the way you did in the pic would have helped out TREMENDOUSLY. Especially for seating comfort.

I think the '09 is going to be much more angular than the 05-08. That one guy said the new Camaro looked a lot like their 09.

Looking at all these concepts, the '05 is already starting to look dated, IMO. I'm not sure if I'll like all those sharp angles though.

You also mentioned that the styling would be more contemporary as well (in the HTT interview), I can't wait to hear more about the car.
I hate the word contemporary.:bang: It is about as ambiguous as words can get.

Def. 1: adj. dating from the same period of time as something else

Def. 2: adj. In existence now

Def. 3: adj. distinctively modern in style

Those are just out of MS Word, but basically it can be something from the same period as something else, something that is already on the market, or something futuristic and modern. So what we know is that it will be either modern, present, or retro.

Well, now isn't that as clear as mud.

I'd like to see a more sutle hip on the existing model with a fastback intergrated with a slight ductail and make the roof unified with the rest of the body.(no roof seams).......and get those shooters off the hood,I'd like them moved into the cowl.

This is excellent news.

I most likely will be in the market for a mustang in 2008 or 2009, and it looks like I will be able to make a choice between which body style/options I prefer more.

I hope it is more of a design departure from the current car than just adding hips. Something more along these lines:

And, with a glassback option!

The Camaro looked great in person from the A-pillar back, and I hope Ford can make it look a bit more modern, and more like the original concept (But with hips).

I would imagine something along the scale of the '99 SN-95 workover. Hopefully, they'd do a more extensive one, but past history and Ford's precarious economic state would argue against that. But DCX and GM pony cars coming on line around that time might force their hand a bit beyond just a rewrapped version of the current car.

I'd like to see a bit of a more modern interpretation than presently as one danger of retro designs is that they can simply look just plain old and tired if your not carefull. As for stylistic cues, some integrated hips and ducktail would be nice. Perhaps a more modern interpretation of the side C scoop/scallop along the lines of the Stang Concept would be nice too.

On the interior, better detailing and materials would be needed, along with a good stylistic freshening of course.

Under the hood, more steam pressure would be needed, but as much through higher tech (VVT, etc) as much or more than just upping to cubes in order to improve not only performance, but also emissions and economy. An extra cog in the tranny and perhaps some SMG/DSG type option (in lieu of an old school ATX?) would be nice.

Under the fenders, somewhat better brakes and, at least as an option, an independant rear suspension to bring it out of the iron age.

All this is evolutionary stuff at best and really nothing beyond what is offered on the market today at affordable prices in many cars. The Mustang will be facing far greater competitive pressures, so they're really going to have to up their game to stay in the game rather than having the court pretty much all to themselves as currently.
