Question need some advice....

I bought a 2014 5.0 six speed manual with the track pack. I am about to hit 1000 miles (whoo hoo) and have heard from some that I should get a oil change after 1000. Is this true? and if so I have also heard not to use synthetic oil until at least the 3rd oil change. Thanx in advance.

I would talk to your dealer about synthetic. and my dealer did my oil at 3000. also at that time they did a checkup.

God. Leave the car alone, leave the oil in there until 10k, or unless the car tells you to sooner.

It came with synthetic blend from the factory. I recommend the same exact oil when the car tells you it is time...not before.

I just changed out to synthetic at about 1400 miles, intended to do it at around 1000 but had to work and didn't have the time.

The school of thought on this early change is to clear out any break-in debris. I did it just for my own peace of mind.

And there is no reason to not change to full synthetic right away, the old school motors needed the extra time before a synthetic change to make sure the flat tappet cam lobes were properly broken in but this is not the case with these motors since they have roller followers. And a full synthetic oil can offer less friction which can equal more power and better fuel economy and longer engine life.

Go ahead and change if you want or wait and just follow the owners manual and leave it until the oil monitor tells you to change.

I changed mine to full synthetic at 500 miles. And have changed it every 5000 since. Have had no issues. I have a CAI, off road h-pipe and a tune. Made 420/386 and trap close to 120 in the 1/4 mile.

Nothing to add beyond what the people above did, other than use the search function and you'll find more talk about oil than you could ever want to read. Welcome to TMS and congrats on your new ride!

I'd follow this advice ^^^^^

Too many people have changed their oil much too soon and ended up with the dreaded "tick".
I changed the oil in my Boss at approx. 1000 miles with Amsoil, and it immediately had the ticking afterwards.

Supposedly there are no additives in the factory oil fill.....but I'm not 100% convinced of that.

Not likely...

My dealer still says change the oil every 3000 even though Ford says different.

They just want the business of course, just like every other shop.

Hello IronHorse,

Welcome and congrats on your new ride! My name is Deysha with Ford Service. Your Mustang's message center will alert you when an oil change is required based on your driving habits. It can be up to a year or up to 10,000 miles. You can click the SETUP button to see how much oil life you have remaining. This information can be viewed in your Owner Guide (3rd Printing). There is no such thing as too many oil changes, however I know many people do the first one a little early due to “break in”. It’s really up to you. I always recommend speaking your servicing Ford dealer first.

Deysha

THIS exactly. Also you have a track pack car which comes with a factory fill of 8.5 qts of 5W-50 full synthetic, so you don't need to worry about synthetic vs conventional. That decision has already been made for you.

Another thing to consider is cost of oil. 9 quarts of Motorcraft 5W-50 oil is going to cost you over $100, not including labor:
5W-50 Oil Change Kit

Unless you buy Mobil 1 5W50 which is currently on sale and then it costs a little under 60 per.

ON the track pack GT the oil filler cap states what you should put in the engine: 5W 50 full synthetic. Canadian dealers say change oil spring and fall or every 8,000 Kms. Use the oil % function in the instrument panel.
