NAV MAP UPDATE????
NAV MAP UPDATE????
I have a 2013 Ford Mustang GT Premium with the NAV. My maps were installed at the factory and are dated March of 2012. Ford has no updates and they sent me to Navigation.com. Navigation.com says there are no updates and are none in sight. They claim Ford needs to tell them to create an update for the Mustang. Ford has been avoiding the issue and drug out my complaint so long that the case number expired. I opened a new case and now it is a no call back situation. I cant be the only one that is not happy about this. The maps are so far out of Date I have to have a Garmin Suctioned to my windshield. I paid over $2300 to have the NAV in the DASH. Isn't this a problem with anyone else? are there that few in Dash NAVS in a mustang?

I have had OEM Nav in my Mustang since 2008 and updated maps every 2 years. That said, except for the first update back in 2010 the changes have been all but invisible. On my system the map update is a DVD that is usable on both cars, so the cost is halved, but you won't like the cost when an update does come out if you pay the list price...$200-300! My brother-in-law just updated the maps in his 2010 Mustang and about the only change he could find was that speed limits are now shown on the screen, which you will already have. The number of the map release is not the year, by the way, as the 2008 came with 6P and the latest version available is 12P, released in the summer of 2013.
Some systems do not update annually, and some (like the in-dash GPS in my sister's new Suburban) are nowhere near as accurate as what Ford has provided for the last 4 years, so I wouldn't fret about it. The maps have been refined enough so that they may slow down the rate of update releases, again GM has not updated for at least 2 years. I do see they just announced a new update to be shipping soon for my systems, so if you are determined, a letter will probably be coming to you, too.

Finally got a call back from Susan Customer Service Manger for Washington DC area. and I Quote. : "I am sorry there is no resolution to this issue. There has been no map updates for your 2013 Mustang and there is no plans of any future updates. Sorry We could not resolve your issue." My response...
So what do I do from here? And I quote again... Susan replies " Whatever you want to".
No more Fords for me. I never heard of treating customers like this. They must have very very Few Mustangs with GPS systems out there. This is crazy... Time to try another brand. I wonder if the customer service after the sale isn't the reason Ford is number 5 instead of number 2.
That was enough for me. The least they should do is provide a coupon paid for the NAV system. Its terrible that you pay more then $2300 for a GPS in the Dash and have to suction cup a portable GPS to your windshield.

Why wouldn't I be upset?

I've had factory nav systems in the past, non-Ford makes. In every case, updates were NOT free, and a brand new update was always more than 2 years behind. My other car, a 2007 Subaru Legacy, was built in January 2007, and my house, built in 05, is not on the map. In fact, my entire neighborhood is a field. I didn't bother updating the maps. It works downtown and such, and for the rest I just hook up my phone through Bluetooth.
I knew this going in, even though I've never had a Ford, so I elected not to get the factory nav. Ford also doesn't make the nav system, they buy it, with customizations, from a supplier. In order to produce an update, that supplier needs to know that the extra work to produce the map update along with adaptations for the Ford specific stuff is going to pay off for them.
There is new tech coming down the pipe that will change this, but as of right now, for mainstream automakers, this is how it is. It just is. Your choices are to accept it, or not pay extra for it. That's it.

Wish I was told this prior to wasting $2340 on the NAV. Needless to say Ford has lost a loyal customer. Burn me once its your fault burn me twice its my fault. There is no justification for this and if every other company did this no one would be factory GPS. IN fact There is an update available for my 2014 F-150 already. The fact of the matter is Ford has abandoned all 2013 and 2014 Mustang owners on this one.

This is one reason why I didn't want Nav. in my car. I have a Garmin Nuvi 40LM that has lifetime free updates. I've had it almost three years and there is usually updates 2-3 times a year. I use a Garmin bean bag dash mount so it's pretty easy to use and I can also use it in all my other vehicles.
I don't mind the little bit of inconvienance to use it and for the $89 I bought it for, I saved ton's of money.
It does suck that Ford has left you out to dry on this.

I've had other manufacturers Nissan to name one that had a $99 Update every year. Please dont say most others are like this because they aren't.

The answer to this is never never buy a factory Nav system. I did the same thing and got the Nav this time. I love the HD radio one of the resones I ordered the Nav. Plus the interface is allot better. Ausio system is as well. I would not do it agin though. But the Mustang is a pain in the ___ to put an after market head unit in..

Note that Ford does not make these maps, they are produced by a 3rd party (used to be called Navteq, but you have their new name) for a variety of GPS makers and they determine when and if a new release will be made. They've sent me a letter almost every year about the latest update, which should be 13P when it is issued this year as they are taking pre-orders. Sorry you are so disappointed in an awesome car from an awesome manufacturer because a 3rd party isn't supporting map updates to your liking, but I suspect there may be other issues here.

It would be nice if Navteq had a more predictable schedule so you would know when the next update was going to come out. The fact that there isn't newer map data available at this time doesn't mean that you will never be able to update your system. And if the map data doesn't include your house or something else, that's not Ford's doing, that's Navteq.
In general I disagree. The fish stinks from the head. Ford must have had more than one supplier option, someone at Ford must have done due diligence and been responsible for choosing the supplier. At some point the buck stops at a Ford. On the other hand, I work making maps and using Google maps data, etc. and omissions in the data are so common I've been waiting years for whole sub-divisions to be included. I really don't get all that bothered by issues like this.
I also have factory nav, and really don't use it that much, it's too much of a pain in the *** to type in the addresses. It's still cool to me. I like the screen for the back up cam, and the jukebox storage is cool for all my old CDs.....does the non nav system also have the jukebox feature? I also have a sirius scrip so I use the screen for the weather map feature, to hide from the rain, hail lol. While my girl shops I watch movies on the screen, and I also uploaded some photos. I can get sports scores on it, movie times, and gas prices. I do agree its a dated system, and I am wondering when someone will post about hacking it, for new software, or new nav systems or something.

I just hold the button and speak the address.
I sure am glad I bought mine for the Electronics Package and not just for the GPS.
The HD Radio sounds pretty good, keeping the wife happy with her own controls on her temp is more than worth the added expense and I do not have a CD in the car, all on the Hard Drive. And if the wife wants to go walk around the Mall and I don't want to, I can still watch a DVD in the car.
Adding the GPS to the Super Duty is $910, that is the most Expensive Vehicle I have seen to add it to from Ford.
Like I said, Electronics Package, not just a GPS. But for the GPS it can find my house, while Google Maps and my Garmin stop me down the street.
