My new Mustang
#24
So, I traded in my '06 GT eight months ago for a '10 Challenger Rt. The challenger was a nice car, and had many up-sides, but I couldn't "fall in love" with the car like I had with my Mustang. So after much debate, I traded in the Chally for a '14 GT premium, and man does it feel good. I felt out of place in the challenger, and it didn't thrill me the way my mustang had. Getting into the drivers seat of the mustang today just felt right. In a weird way, I feel like I'm "back in the fight" if that makes any sense to anyone. I'm pleased with the 5.0, the suspension, and the interior. After driving the Challenger, I was expecting to have my back broken by the '14, but I didn't. The ride is actually pretty comfortable, leaps and bounds over the ride quality of my '06. In fact, everything about this car just generally seems better than my '06. I'm impressed. First thing I did was tints. Next step: wheels/tires from AM. Thanks for reading guys!
Thank you! And yeah, the Challenger was a very practical ponycar: comfortable, roomy, huge trunk. Looks are sharp, and attention-grabbing for sure, but to compete with the others, it needed alot more $$$ than I was willing to invest in it. Plus, the interior put me to sleep, and that's not conducive to driving! :P
Thanks, and congrats to you also! I'm with ya 100% on the challenger. You can get some decent POWER out if those hemis, but making FAST gets veeeerrry expensive. They're just too big. As for the performance of this GT...I broke the wheels loose without even trying on the test drive...It's gonna be a fun summer. Hahaha.

The Challenger really nails the head on the retro look. Probably the best looking of the three... The Mustang at least LOOKS like a Mustang again (after a 35 year hiatus between '70-'05)- I just hope it still looks like a Mustang next year (actually, I don't care... I ordered the final year of the S197 on the assumption Ford will screw it up). The one retro throwback they never worked into the body that I really wanted to see was the indented tail light panel featured on the '67-68.
The Camaro is just some sort of grotesque cartoon car- not really retro and hard to take it seriously (I saw a HotWheels version on the local Chevy dealer's lot a few weeks ago... actually didn't look too bad- but I have to wonder what the market is for a $60k car with HotWheels logos all over it).

Thank you. I hear ya, the challenger is definitely striking. It turned heads everywhere I went with it, and was much less common around these parts than the Mustang and especially the Camaro(loads of those around). Like you said the chally had lots to be desired. The Mustang is an overall better package.

My thoughts of the Challenger is it looks like what would happen if Chip Foose did his thing to an original Challenger, smoothing it over and losing all the chrome and adding trick looking wheels.

The Challenger is the prettiest of the newly-designed muscle cars, with the exception of the GT500 (not just the '13, but all of the S197 Shelbys). My wife wants one, but they're too big and too slow for me. If I had one, I'd have to take it to Hennessey in Katy before I was happy driving it.

^^^What he said... ^^^ They even got the colors right. You see a Challenger on the road, and- for just a split second- you think you're looking at a classic.
IMO, this is the front end Ford should have put on the front of the S197- perfection!

Pypes are very loud. I just went through all of this myself on exhaust. Seems there are a lot of guys on the forum that run the GT500s and like 'em - rumble without any drone. The 500's are too quiet for me so I'm going in the middle with Kooks (Steeda). I can't tell you how many videos I've listened to on this subject. Hypermotive Performance is giving me a good price on the Kooks axle backs. My two cents...

If you set the challenger side by side to the original you can see where is was derived from by hardly a copy for sure. The new one looks like just a heavy fat pig if you ask me. The Mustang is definitely a lot smaller than the Camaro and Challenger and lighter to boot. The thing that really bugs me on the Challenger is those tall huge doors... I am happy the way the S197 progressed..
