My First 10k Miles

Just hit 10k miles today and when checking the trips meters I noticed "Trip B" has never been reset since the car had about 4 miles on it.

Have I really spent almost 14 days sitting in this car??

Maybe Ill just keep track of this for as long as I own the car. should be interesting.

The whole Trip A and Trip B feature is pointless. At most a car needs one trip odometer and even then it would get used very rarely. I reset my trip odometers about ever 4 or 5 months when I remember they are there. Otherwise I never look at them.

I disagree. I reset Trip A every time I fill the tank. I reset Trip B before heading out on a road trip so it tells me the total distance covered.

As do I. I use one for gas fill and reset at each fill, the other is used to track my seasonal mileage. I have the same feature on my motorcycle and use it the same way. Some people just like to keep records...

It's just not that deep for me. The trip odometers are a pointless gimmick. The car has a feature that tells you how many mpg you're getting and it's pretty accurate. You don't need a trip odometer.

I reset the fuel economy gauge after each fillup so I know my MPG for that particular tank. I like the fact that I have a meter that is telling me (in my case anyway) my MPG across the whole 10k miles. SO I plan just to leave trip B alone. I think its neat as trip meters in my older cars just track miles. I like that this one tracks several different things. I supposed I a bit nerdy that way.

I actually did the same thing. I would use trip A between fill ups and let trip B go from day 1.

at one point ( not sure when ) Trip B rolled on me and started over.

I'd like to hear what this engine tick is and how loud...

Mine has engine tick, but I barely ever notice it and have to really listen for it if I'm looking for it.

My Elantra used to be REALLY loud and was told it was the injectors. I just assumed that the mustang was the same thing. but its barely noticeable.

Expensing miles would suggest otherwise.

its not an injector/solenoid type tick. It's more of a clackity clack type sound. I know what injector tick sounds like, and it's typically normal. This is NOT the same tick.

lol clackity clack...totally reminded me of this!!

No, not yet. So far I have not had a single problem and I am usually very picky about rattles and other unusual noises coming from my cars.

No it doesn't. You have to put gas in the car to drive it no matter what. It doesn't matter if your mpg varies by .2 or .5 or whatever per tank. If there is a noticeable drop in mileage its going to show up in the mpg indicator. If you guys want get all nerdy and play with your trip odometers at every fill up by all means you should do that. It's just a gimmick to me.

I think what he was trying to say was that if you are using your vehicle for business purposes and want to track how many miles you've travelled. a trip odometer is very handy for this purpose. I travel a lot to different sites and my trip odometer is really handy for this feature alone.

I can see it for business reasons. I can't imagine there are too many Mustangs that are being used as business cars but okay.

Aside from that, I don't know what else to tell you other than its pointless. It's just a gimmick and no amount of testimony to the contrary is going to change my mind on it.

When I moved to Germany I reset the B trip counter. It's still going over 25K. I will take a picture when I put her on the boat back to the US so I have a documentation of the miles I flew around Europe. That's why I did it.

I reset trip B when I change the oil. Trip A is used either at fill ups for mileage, or more usefully at every track day to count the miles of track time

Mileage is a good indicator for me for when I need an oil change, and I keep track of all track miles because I find it interesting!

Useful features in my opinion
