"Both have manual transmissions with six forward gears, but only the Camaro has optional Brembo front disc brakes."

Sigh.

Well, at least the Mustang won but not the thumping I was expecting. Oh wait, did this Stang have the 3.73 gearing, I think that might be the issue.

Yea, just re-read article, but 3.73 are an option, it lists CS and security packages only.

Oh, I see what they did. They were comparing the California Special primarily, then they had a secondary car with all the performance tweaks (the Brembo package at least, and quite probably the 3.73 axle). Odd, but I guess considering the SS doesn't have many performance options I guess it makes sense. "Even though the Mustang takes more technique to launch or to run around a road course..." That could explain something about the time variety.

I think what it amounts to is that the Camaro SS is going to have the edge over a basic Mustang GT, but there are performance options available that will give a Mustang the edge instead.

The comments are amusing. Truly I'm amazed at the amount of people who hiss at a live axle as if it were driving with bald tires. Really, that roughness when you hit a bump? That's just the cars way of telling you "STOP HITTING POTHOLES!"

Inside the cabin, the Mustang truly pulls ahead of the Camaro. The interior is, by far, the Camaro's weakest element. It's a riot of gimmick styling and cheeseball plastic in there and everything feels less than satisfying to the touch. It's easy to imagine standing there at GM styling and listening to the executives as material quality is sacrificed on the altar of showcar design. Maybe if the dash design had been simplified they could have splurged for some better-grained surfaces? Maybe not.
Problem is, the Camaro's showcar appearance produces some showcar compromises. The roof is so low that even not-so-tall drivers have to make sure they don't whack their heads against it while getting in and out. Inside the cabin there are blind spots to the rear quarters that are big enough to hide the national debt, and the A-pillars are so fat you have to look around them to find a corner's apex. And the list only gets longer from there: The side mirrors are too small, the tiny trunk opening is hilariously misshapen and the doors are thick and heavy enough to knock a hole in your garage's wall.

LMAO........funny stuff

Lame comparo; all-season tires vs. summer tires.

They had a blue Mustang with 3.73s but the 1/4 mile numbers came from the Red GT/CS wich I believe has 3.55s.

This was the only info I hadn't noticed before:
"This red Mustang had been equipped with the "California Special" package that includes a billetlike grille, restyled bumper cover, side scoops and some tape stripes. But when you order the package, it deletes the iconic "5.0" fender badges."

Interesting comments about the IRS vs Solid Rear. During some of the inital first drives and reviews they said the Stang handles the pavement better then the Camaro. Now they say it's the reverse. Another reason why it's best to drive both. The Camaro SS I drove felt no different then my GT500.

I know modern suspensions are much more advanced than the old ones but:
30 years ago I had a rear drive IRS car.
I decided then that it was a little better on uneven surfaces and a little more stable in corners.
I also decided that the difference wasn't all that big a deal.
My how times haven't changed.

Honestly, this comparo should have been a GT Premium with the Brembo package vs. the Camaro as an even match up, instead of the CS. Price would have been closer, and performance would have been about equal.

Also, seems like their numbers are a bit slow for both cars.

It's inevitable. To keep the pony wars going, we are going to see a lot of back and forth in the reviews. Lets wait a month and see what the real world brings. By then there will be plenty of broken in Mustangs establishing the real baseline. I can't wait!

Through the decades neither the Camaro nor the Mustang has ever had a usable backseat. They still don't.
love this statement..

I am really mad at the magazines who represented this car to be faster than it really is *cough* motor trend *cough*....

I actually feel like cancelling my mustang after reading these comparisons, because I fear it will be too much slower than my current procharged mach 1.

I don't see what the big deal is...
Not everyone is buying the Brembo wheel package.
It's healthy to pit cars optioned differently against each other.

And honestly, this is the what, the 4th-5th review of the mustang's numbers coming no where near that of MT...

We all need to face reality the new 5.0 may have been really over hyped....

My mach 1 has been known to run 13.0 flat stock..... trading in my supercharged mach 1 for the new 5.0 seams ludacris after reading recent reviews....
