Mustang Roadster

Is a Corvette Killer of the same league, in other words, a roadster Mustang a good idea. I thought of the idea two days ago.

As much as the Mustang is the quintessential American pony car, the Corvette is the quintessential American sports car, and as much as Ford may want to Mustang to compete with the Corvette, the cars are in different leagues and probably always will be.

Exactly - I say worry about dominating the GTO/Charger/Challenger/Camaro segment and not worry so much about the Vette (a different class of car to begin with...)

A roadster is supposed to mean a car with no top at all (think old Shelby Cobra or '32 roadsters) -- is this what you meant? If so, I don't ever see the Mustang loosing it's convertible top.

Did you mean being a two-seater? I so, I don't envision that happening either.

Did you mean being more of a legitimate sports car like the Vette? For that, it would have to loose 500# or so, and I don't see ever happening either.

As stated above, the Mustang was never meant to compete with the Vette, and I don't see that it ever will. But that is a good thing, becuase I wouldn't buy a Mustang if it didn't have a convertible top and a back seat.

Hold on. I didn't say Ford is going to make it. It was only an idea that sprang up during school.

I like the idea, but I don't think Ford could sell enough to make it worth their while. They are not exactly swimming in cash right now

Ford did design proprosals for a pre-production roadster Mustang back in 63/64 but the proportions weren't very good. (not to be confused with the 62 concept Mustang V4 midship design<<<that one WOULD still work today!
http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...tml?page=8&c=y),
I think Ford could make a cool little Focus based roadster like that now (like how the Fiero was based off the Citation/Phoenix FWD chassis)

Naw, the Stang's simply too big, heavy and crude to compete fully with the C6 Vette, much less the Z06.

Fordracing200, how exactly did you vote twice and why did you vote for both "yes" and "I don't know" ??

No. Most guys buying the Vette see the Mustang as a poorer option and more....crude? So they likelyhood of them considering one would be low.
