Mustang Has European Looks
well he did say its a drivable car thats fully capable of being produced, so maybe we will see something along the line of the Giugiaro's Concept in the future, say maybe around 2014? what ya think?
i mean as far as the "Giugiaro's Concept" being drivable, just want to advoid confusion
Hmmm.... this is very strange. TampaBear spends all kinds of time and effort telling us over and over again that the 2010 doesn't look Euro... And then he digs up some old Mustang info on its Euro-inspired design and now the 2010 does look Euro?
I guess you're just okay with admitting the Euro design influence of the 2010 because you now feel it is acceptable to say the 2010 is just following along with the original Mustang?

However I Do Not See Any European Influence in the 2010 Mustang, with the Exception of the Front Kinda Reminding me of an Aston Martin, Which I Also Said About the 2005's, and Do Not think The Designers Intended. What Really Irritates Me is the People who Keep saying the 2010 looks like a Japanese Import though. That simply is not true.
The closest I've Ever seen the Mustang come to looking like a Japanese Import was the SN-95's 94-04 which I still don't really even consider looking Japanese, it was just the Mustang had Lost It's Classic Rear Wheel Drive, Axle to Dash Ratio, Which is the distance from the dash to the centerline of the Front Wheels, when Ford Introduced the Fox Platform and which the S-197 re-Introduced.
At one point I actually thought Ford was going to Loose the Mustangs Market to The Japanese Imports, and I Designed a Couple of More Radical Mustangs Specifically Targeted at that Asian Import Crowd, because I didn't think Ford would Re-Capture that Mustang Magic. My thinking was "If You Can't Beat Em Join Em"
I got to thinking about things that made a Mustang a Mustang in the 60's and 70's, such as the Gas Cap between the Tri Bar Tail Lights, which I Knew could Never Work on a Modern Car, but I didn't think about using that Look as a Badge as Ford Did.
I thought about the Forward Leaning Shark Nose, which again I didn't see making it in a Modern world for Aerodynamic Reasons. Even BMW was even Abandoning it for those same Aerodynamic reasons although it had been a BMW trademark since the 60's as well. Yet Ford Saw a Way to Re-Introduce it on the 05 and continues to Use it on the 2010.
Ford had already started Picking up some thing such as the Tri-Bar Tail Lights and C-Scoop on the 94-04's which I incorporated in My "Asian Stang" as Well which were Also Elements that Made a Mustang a Mustang back in the 60's and 70's, but I didn't see the 2003 Concept Coming. I still remember standing in the middle of the Local News Stand Looking at the First Magazine article about that BEAUTIFUL Silver Fastback.
I couldn't get the money out of my pockets fast enough to buy that Magazine as well as every other Magazine I could find about that Concept. I knew Ford had Found It's Way again with the Mustang at that point, and only Hoped they would Build it, Because I knew if they did that the Mustangs Market was Locked In, No More Need for my Import Fighting Asian Stang.
Ford had Re-Invented the Pony Car All Over Again, a Fact Only Reinforced in my mind, when I walked onto the Showroom Floor of the Daytona Ford Dealership the Friday after Thanksgiving in 2004 and Saw the Red Concept Convertible. I Looked at My Mom and Saw the Expression on her Face As Well, and Said, "Now That's A Mustang!" I made it My Mission that year at the Turkey Rod Run to Find the 1:18th Scale Models of the Coupe and Convertible Concepts.
When Ford Finally Introduced the 05's and I went to a Local Show with my Mom to see the Sneak Preview, I was Both Ecstatic as well as a Bit Let Down. Yes It Looked Like a Mustang, and I still Saw A Lot of the Concept In It, But I felt they had Dumbed It Down for Production, But I Still LOVED IT! But It Left Me Wanting More, which Ford Gave Me, and the Rest Of The World When they Introduced the 2010.

Post #20 gives a reference from an interview with Giugiaro. Personnally after looking at his concept, it doesn't look much at all like the 2010. The rear ends are completely different. The 2010 looks more like the '05 concept vehicle than anything else.
Yeah, no kidding. I read the article in the magazine back when it was published. He doesn't say anywhere that his concept design was completed before the 2010 design was completed. For all we know, he could have seen some of the styling concepts that Ford designers were considering at the time. In fact, I'm sure he didn't even know that 2010 was the year that the Mustang styling would change. Back when the article was published, most people were still thinking that it would be '09 at the latest. The point is that people are claiming facts without being able to back it up.
My comment about the back was concering the Giugiaro concept. The argument has been that the 2010 is based off that concept. I think the 2010 as a whole looks more like the '05 concept than the Giugiaro concept.
"Mustang's trend-setting long hood/short deck proportions have been dramatically accentuated in 1971. The new rooflines for the hardtop and Sportsroof models reflect the influence that the great European road cars have had on the styling of the Mustang."
I guess you didn't know...
That may be. But since there's obviously (arguably?) a European influence in all the Mustang designs, there has to be something at the bottom of the list. And IMO, those models would be it.
I'm not denying it's there, just that it's much less apparent.

More importantly - the 2010 IMO has European styling concepts blended with Mustang lines regardless of when Giugiaro made his. Don't you think Ford designers look somewhat at his coupe to influence their own and visa versa- of course.

TampaBear..Thanks for the link. That is a great site for an old guy. As to the euro influence on the Mustang, I can only say, my '79 Silver over Black Cobra (no Snake on the hood) was a crowd stopper while I was assigned to Germany. The Germans loved that car. Kids would stop outside the house and just stand and stare at it. Quite honestly, I am waiting until I see the 2010 in person. I don't dislike the design, I would just like to walk around and take it in before I make a final decision.

Have you ever been to Sweden? For some reason, the Mustang is very popular over there. There are a lot of guys who seem to have a Mustang tucked away in their garages for weekends/car shows/special occasions. It's almost like a cult following.
^ well said. I would argue that the 71-73 are the most European influenced designs- at least so far as the fastback/flatback. As to the 2010- much if its flavor is from the Mustang by Giugiaro whom took great pains to reinterpret the design language of the car. This back and forth design characterizes it as Italian - except for that damned black diaper on the rear!
