MT82 6 spd man. Transmission

Anybody know anything about this tranny? Heard good or bad stuff? I could google it, but I trust the people on this site a lot more than other forums.

I'm glad there is a 6 spd standard in all stangs. The only thing I can nit-pick is I don't like reverse being all the way up and to the left. But that's just because its all the way down and to the right on my current car. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Read the last page in the scan article about specs on the tranny.

Yes. Yes you will. The first few times you stick it in 6th and stall it out will probably help too.

I think this is a logical place to put Reverse. When you are trying to get into or out of a tight space and have to keep switching between first and reverse, doesn't it make more sense to have R right next to 1 instead of at the other end?

true, although I hope there is a safety mechanism or I predict a couple accidental shifts into reverse in my future!

This is where it was located on my 03 svt focus. You had to push down and over to get it into reverse. Pretty hard to do it by accident, and pretty funny to watch someone unfamiliar with the car try to find reverse.

usually in cars with reverse there, you do have to push down on the shifter and switch over

Agreed, or for when you're trying to escape from pursuit and need to pull off a J-turn

No its not. Liverpool, England is where it's made. But it is true that some Getrag transmissions are made in China.

It would be kind of fun to put together a list of parts and where they all come from. The 3.7 engine in the 2011 is built in Cleveland, Ohio and the 5.0 is built in Windsor, Ontario. I wonder where the automatic transmissions come from? Parts probably come from a dozen countries and a dozen states. Are the Pirelli tires made in Italy or does Pirelli have factories in the western hemisphere, too?

The current MT82 for the Range Rover is made in liverpool, but the Ford 5.0 article says Ford has a new production relationship with Getrag to manufacture the Mustang MT82's in China. I was bummed to hear that because I thought it would be made in England as well.

At least it sounds like Ford's beefing up the syncros....

Anyone know where the transmissions were built for the 05-10 Mustang GT's? I assumed they were built in China and shipped here like everything else.
