You only really hear about the winners.
Current tank reading 17.1 MPG. Yes, I have a V6 with 3.31 gears. I have 3500 miles on the car and an average of about 22 MPG.
I can't say this is particularly good but MOST of my driving is VERY local. Speeds under 45 and lots of stops in a 5 mile commute. Between those stops, the gas pedal seems to have one position.
I wouldn't quite call this a pair of deuces but it ain't really much more than a pair of nines. I don't blame the car, however. Just the player.

I've been averaging 16-18 while taking people for rides (having fun, mildly heavy foot). This morning I drove my 25 mile route to work conservatively (10 miles city @ 45 MPH and 15 miles highway @75 MPH) and my computer average was 26.4 MPG.
I could run 87 octane instead of 92 and save a few bucks, but then what was the point of buying a 400+ hp car?
I am still amazed at how good the mpg is if I keep my foot out of it.
I had a 71 with a 302 and it got half the mpg and half the speed.
No complaints here.
Just enjoy!

I can baby my 03 and pretty much do all highway driving (or at least highway speeds) and my best is 17, so still I think getting 17 and driving it the way you want it pretty good in my books

5 to 8 mile trips are what i drive most of the time. I average the same m.p.g. i got with my 4 cylinder car i traded for my Mustang, 22 to 23 m.p.g. I'm happy!!!
wow glad you made this thread!! Your absolutely right, you only hear about the good stories. I have been trying to shift at the speeds the manual recommends for optimal fuel economy. Currently strictly city driving the lowest I've got is 18MPG. For the longest time (first handful of tanks) I was only getting roughly 15-16MPG. Currently have 1,120miles on it.
I can do three complete (freeway) commutes to work, 86miles roundtrip and still have about 20miles to empty.
I'm just happy cause in my V6 I could only manage 2 & 1/2 trips to work before empty. Yea, I do suffer from the not so rare condition called lead foot.

What am I doing different? My trips to phoenix(lots of down hill) I get 31 mpg and the return trips I get 26 mpg.
My car has 3.55 and is stick. I get on it once in awhile when passing or just playing around.

Come on guys...what gives? Maybe they are not broken in. The only time I have ever gotten under 20 mpg was when I spent 4 consecutive days driving to Barbers Motorsport Park and hot lapped the track foe 30 minutes each day. Then I got 15 mpg. Most of the time I get 22 in the city and 26+ on the highway with my OLD TECH 2000 GT w/400+ Vortech SC HP (and it weighs the same as the new V6).
ive been averaging 17mpg with about 70% city, 30% highway
Lets keep in mind that for us that do a lot of city driving it depends on how many stops we do and the speed limits in our towns. I would say i have average speed limits 20-30mph and your average stop and go on a regular basis. But if i was to go 15 miles north of where my town is the speed limits are mostly 30-45 and not nearly as many stops in those towns. So it all depends.
