Well everyone knows about Hurricane Sandy blasting through the east coast and Long Island where I live, it was hit hard. Through it all my Mustang was a trooper. I filled up before the storm and did not fill up till tonight with a 45 minute wait in the gas line. I have to say with only 3000 miles on her she drove in the rain and high winds with ease. Then yesterday we get hit pretty hard with a snow storm. Everyone at work stating aren't you afraid of driving a Mustang in the snow and wet weather (I grew up in Southern Oregon and there were no FWD cars at that time so used to RWD in snow) so I was not afraid however I not sure how she would really do in the stuff. I recently added new 18" rims and all-weather Kumo tires. Let me tell you I was impressed to say the least. So last night we got even more snow dumped on us. No time to shovel (4 or 5" on the ground) and my wife insisting I take her Fiesta.. I put her in 1st and proceeded to drive out of the driveway. I hit a deep spot where the street was plowed.. but did the reverse/forward move and drove right threw. My 8 year old telling to my wife the whole time.. Don't worry Mom, Dad's Mustang can do anything... All during the whole two storms and the gas issue I could not be happier.. just wish she was not such a dirty girl I have to say buying my Mustang was one of my best decisions I have made in my life!! great story glad everything is well for you over there from what I understand the 13 mustangs are very good in weather.

As one currently in Southern Oregon (and it's COLD today let me tell you), I am looking forward to seeing how my 13 does in the sub freezing winter... not sure where you're from, but it was snowing on the Siskiyou pass heading into California from Ashland....

 

Xar, My mother lives in Medford area now. I believe closer to White City, However I grew up on 199 Hwy in Selma.. Went to HS in Cave Junction.. I remember driving my 1963 Buick LaSabre Coupe in deep snow.. It was a heavy tank.. Loved the 401 in it.. GM car were built great in the 60ies.. I left Oregon in the late 70ies..

 

the traction control makes a huge difference in the snow and making it much safer to accelerate on the highways. I been driving it every day through snow and ice.

Was out a couple days ago with a few car friends, we were having fun so i turned the trac off and the car drifts like a champ on ice and snow, doesnt even need to rev over 3000RPM... keeping up with my buddy's Lancer Evo until he spun out... : D

I'm quite happy with how Ford tuned all the electronics on this car, makes me feel so much safer driving it in winter.

Mustangs a great value for the price; that's one of many reasons that led me to buying. Reading stories such as this only applies icing to the cake.

 

Which Kumho tires did you get? I had the 4X all seasons on my last car and they were really great in the rain. I'm heading to Germany the first week next year and wont see my car till the end of Feb most likely. This info does make me feel better about driving her in the weather.

I work in White City but live in SW Medford. I'm sure you visit from time to time, so if you see a GHIG 13 it's me, as far as I know I have the only one in the valley

 

I'm curious how some 295/30R20's will perform in the snow. We shall see when it hits.

 

Similar story here...also from Long Island. my SUV was in the garage when Sandy hit, then my driveway was blocked by fallen trees. So the only transportation I had was my Mustang. Not a problem, it made for a perfect DD. I used it for everything, getting to work, big grocery shopping, and also to transport gas for the generator and friends&family's cars from CT when they couldn't fill up on LI. The Mustang was a true multi talent, braving terrible weather, hazardous roads filled with debris and fallen trees, poles and electrical wires.
If you have seen any of those distopian movies where humanity is wiped out, and a guy is driving through the wastelands in his beat up car filling up from gas cans - well that was for real.

 

Different experience here. Been driving stick 25 years in NE snow, had an '05 V6 MT for a few years on 17" A/S Pirellis with no issues in snow. Got caught in this last storm in a '13 GT MT w/ stock 18" A/S Pirellis and 3.73s and had serious traction issues. Had to really feather the accelerator to not kick out just driving straight and slow. Got caught on a steep, slick hill for awhile and tried a few traction settings till I caught a dry patch and powered through the slippage. I usually leave her home in snow but wanted to take her to WI in March and dont wanna drop $1K on tires for a week trip. Decisions, decisions.

I grew up driving RWD cars in the winters in Kansas (74 Trans Am) and Washington/Oregon (PDX area) T/A and 74 Datsun 610 Wagon. I can't wait to get take her for a spin when I get to Germany in January.
