More interesting tidbits on the 2011's
More interesting tidbits on the 2011's
These details were mentioned as part of Jalopnik's 12:01AM article on the V6, but may/do apply to the GT as well.
- Standard now are GT disc brakes all around
- optional 19 inch wheels
- stiffer bushings, bigger stabilizer bar, dual exhaust standard
- low rolling resistance tires, and 7% better aerodynamics because fascia tuning, an underbody tray and wheel spats.
- 6 speed transmissions (manual and auto) confirmed
- A die-cast aluminum deep-sump oil pan provides 10,000-mile oil change intervals
- Standard 2.73 limited slip rear axle, wide ratio spread permitted through the use of six forward speeds in the gearboxes.
- Performance enthusiasts can select an available 3.31 rear axle ratio for better off-the-line launch characteristics.
- 19 mpg city/30 highway with six-speed automatic transmission
- 18 mpg city/29 highway with six-speed manual transmission - first time I've seen an automatic beat the manual on mileage
- new Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system which eliminates the drag of an engine-operated hydraulic power steering pump
- EPAS also enables new technologies that adjust for minor driving annoyances. Pull-Drift Compensation adjusts the steering to correct for crosswinds and minor road crowning, while Active Nibble Control helps eliminate the "shimmy" felt at high speeds when a wheel is out of balance or a brake rotor is warped.
- 1000%(!) Stiffer convertible body
- TRACK PACK FOR THE V6
The Performance Package will be available in August

Optional on the V6, the track pack turns things up a notch and makes it a track-day special. Said unnamed engineer mentioned there's a distinct possibility the track-pack equipped V6 will not only stick with the V8 track-pack 'Stang, it might even outrun it. Well, we would certainly be happy to test that theory out.

WOW...this was the primary reason I traded my 2007GT500 vert...the cowl shake was horrible on that car...man I hope this is accurate...may be a new Mustang vert in my future sooner than I was thinking...5.0GT with track pack, 19" wheels and a Rouch S/C...now that would be a great "sleeper" to drive

Wow that is good news. I promised my wife that after her breast cancer treatments were over I'd get her a convertible again. We need one with 4 seats to carry the kids around so this news is welcome indeed. There may be a Mustang vert in our future. I think the 6 cylinder would be more than enough power for her. In fact she's a bit of a leadfoot so she may end up getting a bunch of tickets.

When the 2011 Mustangs were first anounced, they stated different transmissions for the V-8 and the V-6 for automatic and manuals. Now, most of the more recent articles i've been reading have been saying the manual transmission for the V-8 and V-6 are the same and the automatic transmission for the V-8 and the V-6 are the same. I don't know if this is true or people are getting their information messed up.

The vert is for her. Don't get me wrong I'll enjoy it as well, but she loves open air motoring.
For 2011 there is no Track Pack. The high-performance suspension package for the GT is called the Brembo Brake Package. The high-performance suspension package for the V6 is called Performance Package. PP won't come out until this summer. I'm sure it's a Job 2 thing like the Yellow Blaze Tri-coat paint.
