More interesting tidbits on the 2011's

These details were mentioned as part of Jalopnik's 12:01AM article on the V6, but may/do apply to the GT as well.

- Standard now are GT disc brakes all around
- optional 19 inch wheels
- stiffer bushings, bigger stabilizer bar, dual exhaust standard
- low rolling resistance tires, and 7% better aerodynamics because fascia tuning, an underbody tray and wheel spats.
- 6 speed transmissions (manual and auto) confirmed
- A die-cast aluminum deep-sump oil pan provides 10,000-mile oil change intervals
- Standard 2.73 limited slip rear axle, wide ratio spread permitted through the use of six forward speeds in the gearboxes.
- Performance enthusiasts can select an available 3.31 rear axle ratio for better off-the-line launch characteristics.
- 19 mpg city/30 highway with six-speed automatic transmission
- 18 mpg city/29 highway with six-speed manual transmission - first time I've seen an automatic beat the manual on mileage
- new Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system which eliminates the drag of an engine-operated hydraulic power steering pump
- EPAS also enables new technologies that adjust for minor driving annoyances. Pull-Drift Compensation adjusts the steering to correct for crosswinds and minor road crowning, while Active Nibble Control helps eliminate the "shimmy" felt at high speeds when a wheel is out of balance or a brake rotor is warped.

- 1000%(!) Stiffer convertible body

The improvements come in underbody and cowl cross-bracing and structural foam injected into the door pillars. 1000%, pretty impressive.
- TRACK PACK FOR THE V6

Well, we would certainly be happy to test that theory out.
The Performance Package will be available in August

Unique 19-inch wheels
Pirelli performance tires for improved grip
Mustang GT front and rear brake calipers with Performance Friction pads
A strut tower brace for increased body rigidity
Unique electronic stability control calibration with Sport mode for performance driving
Unique badging

How many quarts of oil does that deep sump oil pan take?

I wonder if its 8.8's across the board now? The new V6 is right close in output to the old 4v'rs that were in a lighter car.

Looks like 5 on the 3.7L V6.

WOW...this was the primary reason I traded my 2007GT500 vert...the cowl shake was horrible on that car...man I hope this is accurate...may be a new Mustang vert in my future sooner than I was thinking...5.0GT with track pack, 19" wheels and a Rouch S/C...now that would be a great "sleeper" to drive

Wow that is good news. I promised my wife that after her breast cancer treatments were over I'd get her a convertible again. We need one with 4 seats to carry the kids around so this news is welcome indeed. There may be a Mustang vert in our future. I think the 6 cylinder would be more than enough power for her. In fact she's a bit of a leadfoot so she may end up getting a bunch of tickets.

Well, i'm sorry to hear about your wife's cancer, best of luck with the treatments. I'm sure you'll be getting that vert you desire and enjoy life at it's fullest.

When the 2011 Mustangs were first anounced, they stated different transmissions for the V-8 and the V-6 for automatic and manuals. Now, most of the more recent articles i've been reading have been saying the manual transmission for the V-8 and V-6 are the same and the automatic transmission for the V-8 and the V-6 are the same. I don't know if this is true or people are getting their information messed up.

In the big article from 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords magazine they say that the automatic transmission (6R80) is the same unit for both engines but the one in the V6 has fewer clutches and a smaller torque converter. The manual (MT82) is also the same for both models. Not that you asked, but one positive note on the new manual transmission is that it has synchromesh on all gears including Reverse. That should be nice.

Thanks, we're optimistic she'll get treated and be able to live a relatively normal life afterwards.

The vert is for her. Don't get me wrong I'll enjoy it as well, but she loves open air motoring.

For 2011 there is no Track Pack. The high-performance suspension package for the GT is called the Brembo Brake Package. The high-performance suspension package for the V6 is called Performance Package. PP won't come out until this summer. I'm sure it's a Job 2 thing like the Yellow Blaze Tri-coat paint.
