My auto dim mirror was defective right from the factory on my 2010 GT. They replaced it and broke the windshield! Search for thread from last August. They replaced the mirror and it kind of works but not nearly as good as my auto dim on my 2007 Tahoe. That worked great. The Mustangs autodim sucks.

Now I am more prepared and know to slam it back into first if that happens again.
When the skip shift engages, have you tried moving in into third gear instead? My Corvette has skip shift and it rarely kicks in. When it does, although it tries to guide me into fourth, it will let me put it into third. Perhaps the Mustang also locks out third but it's worth a try.
