interesting. There was an identical one to your Mom's except it was a 5 speed at my local dealer in the summer. I test drove it. It was a pretty combo/

my original owner had the same problem with ordering my (his at the time)car. Redfire conv with chamois interior. He had to go to 4 dealers before someone would order it. It ends up being VERY rare to th etune of less then 10 or so made according to Ford. Redfire conv/chamois/spoiler delete.

You Would Have Thought My Mom Was Looking For Some Crazy Color And Option Combination Like Screaming Yellow With Red Leather, And Base Trim, The Way They All Acted. (Sorry, It Just Hit Me, That Combination Sounds Like Ronald McDonald's Dream Car. LOL)

What She Was Looking For Was A Windveil Blue GT, Automatic, With Gray Leather Interior, And The IUP, So It Had Aluminum Dash Trim And The Black Inserts In The Doors. We Litterally Drove All Over Florida Searching For That Combination For MONTHS, And I Searched All The Dealers Data Bases.

All The Dealers Told Her They Wouldn't Be Able Sell A Mustang GT In That Color Combination, With That Trim. Now Mind You, This Was Right After the 05's Came Out And They Couldn't Keep GT's On The Lot, They Were Selling So Fast. But They Kept Offering To Order Her One. Which You Would Have To Know My Dad To Understand Why They Wouldn't Just Order It.

Finally After Searching For 7 Or 8 Months After She Had Given Up Looking For One, They Just Happened To Be Driving Down The Street In Lakeland And They Saw A Windveil Bue GT At The Ford Dealer. My Dad Asked Her If She Wanted To Go Back And Look At It, And She Said No It Probably Wouldn't Have The Options She Wanted. But He Turned Around Anyway.

Low And Behold The Dealer Had Just Gotten It That Morning. Someone Had Ordered It And Their Financing Fell Through Last Minute. The Dealer Litterally Told Her They Would Have Never Ordered One Like That, But That It Had Been The Nicest Combination Thay Had Seen, And After Seeing It They Would Be Ordering Quite A Few More Just Like It.

The Only Thing She Didn't End Up Getting, That She Originally Wanted, Was The Bullitt Wheels, She Got The Newer Style 5 Spokes, Which She Decided She Liked Better Anyway. But It Just Goes To Show, The Dealer Would Have Never Orderd It Because They Couldn't See What It Would Look Like Together, In Their Imagination. But It Turned Out They Ended Up Ordering Quite A Few More And Couldn't Keep Them On The Lot.

BTW, These Pic's Were Taken Right After She Got It, And It Currently Still Has Less Than 3000 Miles On It!

2 light silvers and no dark grey?

Sterling grey wont cut it.. it's silver to me as well.

If it's not alloy, any dark grey will do. Gun-metal grey's are good. There's a reason why gun's are that shade. They are serious machines that are not to be F'd around with.

Dark greys are calm, serious, no-frills, and menacing. It's a color that says "I don't need your attention, because this is a purpose-built machine - and it definately wasn't built to look cute and pretty." Alloy was that color.

I Know I've Got One VERY COOL MOM!!! I Give Her Credit For My Love Of Mustangs, Ever Since She Got Her First 73 Mach 1, 351 Cleaveland 2 Barrel. It Was Medium Blue, With Silver Stripes, With Black/Silver Sports Interior.

I Was The Reason She Originally Got Rid Of That Car, As I Was Getting Too Tall For The Back Seat. Once I Was Grown And Getting Ready To Drive Myself She Bought A Second 73 Mach 1, 351 Cleaveland 2 Barrel, Yellow With Black Stripes, A Ginger 1/2 Vinyl Top, And Ginger Base Interior.

This Is The Car I Learned To Drive In and Eventually Took My First Driving Test In, And Passed With A Perfect Score BTW. I Actually Drove That Mustang More Than She Did, So They Bought Me A Project Mustang Of My Own. Again a 73 Mach 1, 351 Cleaveland 4 Barrel, Emberglow With Black Stripes And a Ginger Half Vinyl Top, And Ginger Sports Interior.

Unfortunately I Only Drove Mine A Few Times Before We Started to Fix It Up and Found That It Had Major Rust Problems, Which A Lot Of 60's And 70's Mustangs Suffer From. So It Got Parked And Never Did Get Restored. But I Will Never Forget Riding In And Driving Those Awesome Muscle Cars!

Man, I've seen plenty of Windveil Blue GTs with the gray interior, auto and IUP at my dealer. I live around the corner from it so I look every week. Even back then in 2005, I remember seeing that combo all the time. Should move to CA! And, no offense but you have one badass mom! Hahaha :P

Although I would prefer Alloy, or something close it, I did see Sterling Grey in person the other day. I liked it quite a bit, and would be content with it. It's tone was kind of in between Tungsten and Dark Shadow Grey.

I told you guys the reason they don't want to order it. Remember, they like to order them to sell them to the Best Buy mentality crowd, the ones who would not order, and want to (need to, in some cases) take it home *today*.

To do this they must have the product *in stock*. This precludes them guessing what wild/different/odd/? combination that might not sell. So simplify the product choices.

This results in two mentalities.

1) "Hey, c'mon, buy what I got here, or can get from another dealer not too far away." (Dealer trade. Works almost the same as on the lot, except the wait for the car to get on site and through Make Ready)

2) "Now, if I go through all this, and order the thing... the combo that is gonna be harder to sell to anyone else... and you bail, or can't get the deal done because of whatever reason, I'm gonna be stuck with this for a LOT longer than if I just ordered a car I can sell." It does happen. Deals fall through, and the order sticks, unless it gets canceled in time. This is probably rarer, and the first reason is the most common reason.

That's why. Ford does not care who buys/orders it, but they do care about the cost of making it, which is why they limit the colors. However, the dealers are not interested in plethoras. They only get/need so many units, and Ford does have controls over how many of V6 vs GT vs Convert vs Coupe a dealer can get, so they do their best to appease the Best Buy type crowd, not the specialists like us.

Which really sucked, because all that time that I was threatening to get an Emberglo Mustang if they ever did come out with the color, they didn't. So I didn't. However, they had an Emberglo like color in the Mazdas being made in the same plant, which really confused me... seemed like it'd make the ordering of the special color that much easier on cost... but whatever.

/woulda looked great too. With a tan interior, of course.
//But I woulda never met Awesome, and for that, I'm grateful.
///And +1 on TampaBear67's mom being teh cool.

I'd like to see Sport Blue offered. It looks great on my girlfriend's Milan and an Edge I saw. It would look hot on a Mustang.
