More 2009/2010/2011 rumours - Vette/Camaro and Stang

Re the Saleen Camaro, but he also mentions some Ford Mustang Points as well.
***Note/Speculation***
Steve Saleen refers to the Mustang as the 2009 refresh (which would be the release year, not the model year. He also refers to the 2009 Camaro.
Purely speculation, and who knows how true this is re Saleen, but read on.
****Mustang News****
- 2010 Mustang GT aiming for 350hp
Speculate on engines, as they are not mentioned
- 2010 Mustang GT500 aiming for 510-515hp
Speculation, same engine, just turning up the dial, as we know that engine can just turn on tuned Horsepower
- As per SVTPerformance's website, it sounds like the BOSS engines will NOT be in the 2010 redesign, but the year after (so they/it are coming, but not till a year later)
http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...=313625&page=6
He's pretty reliable for info
Speculation: I can't see them throwing a 6.2L engine with its capabilities into the Mustang GT, however, I can also not see the GT coming in with a 4.6 3v and the GT500/type car with a 6.2L
There COULD be (and this is 1 part speculation and 1 part hoping) that the GT will by then have the 5.4 3v... which has been kinda thrown around by various people, but nothing concrete, nor that I trust their info.
but... think about this next section re: the camaro
***2009 Camaro*****
- LS3 engine in top form (450hp)
Probably see the engine debut first at 435hp in the Vette in 08?
Leads to thinking what will be in the base v8?
If its still the same engine (6.2L) it'll probably be detuned to 375-400hp
****MISC stuff*****
- the 2008+vette (supervette or Z06) seems to be getting the T-6060 tranny (same as the GT500) and also the Viper and a Caddy as well
as the tranny supports 650ftlbs of torque.

I recently learned that Ford will be dropping a 6.2L 2v Boss into the 2011 Stang. Not sure if it's the GT that gets it or a SE, I'll post as more info trickles in.

The 4.6 is not exactly a spring chicken anymore...
the 3v with VVT is..but the block is NOT new...
And with the competition having what they have, ford has their warchest ready I'm sure

So looks like we'll have the 5.8 and 6.2L BOSS engines
By the close of the 2008 model year, GM would have gone over all of it's high priority projects. Saturn would have been rebuilt, all it's new bread & butter cars would have been redone, and GM will have scheduled all it's 3-4 year reskinnings.
But for 2009 & 2010, hang on to yer hats because it's likely to be 1968 all over again..... to the extreme!!!
Since nothing is official till the final money flows and the ink's dry on final contracts, I'm using "if", "may", & "should". But consider the timing of these items...almost all at once.... if things pan out:
1. Pontiac will have a performance rear drive V8 sedan.
2. Pontiac's GTO will return.
3. Chevrolet may see the return of the El Camino.
4. Chevrolet's Corvette "Stingray" will be hitting the streets.
5. The new CTSv with as much as (or even more than) 500 horses will be in showrooms.
6. The 5th gen Camaro will be in showrooms.
7. GM "should" have their small sports sedan either in showrooms or in final testing...... and it seems a coupe is possible as well.
8. Solstice "may" have a restyling where it "may" be fitted with a HFV6.
9. Chevrolet "should" have a premium performance coupe within a year of Camaro.
10. Buick "should" have a RWD convertible in showrooms, also by this time.
Over at other automakers:
1. Chrysler's 2nd gen SRT300, SRTCharger, SRTMagnum "should" all be out.
2. Challenger will already be in it's 2nd & 3rd year.... including it's SRT version.
3. Ford will have a new Mustang with the new "Boss" V8s.... yes, plural.
4. Nissan Skyline will be in it's 1st or 2nd year.
5. We "should" have a new 350Z by then.
6. Hyundai will even have a V8, rear drive, sports sedan... and "may" have a coupe.
7. If Ford "may" very well end up importing some version of the upcoming Falcon... apparently it has LHD capability engineered in.
8. Mercury or Lincoln is scheduled for a RWD convertible "if" Ford gains some financial traction
I can't remember a single time in automotive history where so many performance oriented vehicles all hit the streets in such a small window of time.
Although I have to say there is speculation involved, they are all apparently at the very least penciled in for the 2009-2010 timeframe. Most anyone in-the-know will say is that they are 'thinking' about it. But "thinking" has a different meaning in the auto industry than it does to you and me.

I'm sure most have seen the pictures and short article in the new Car & Driver that shows the 'refreshed' front of the 2009 'stang and a drawing of what the 2012 might look like. I wonder why wait until 2009 for the refreshing if the decision has already been made just bring it up as a 2008. But if you at my avator (sp?) it looks just like the picture of 2008. Another insider scoop done bad?
If the new 3.5L V6 in the 2008/2009 works as well as it is supposed to then maybe Ford will survive.

However, "if", "may" and "should" might turn into "won't", "can't" and "didn't" if gas prices go back up to where they were a year ago.
Seems like a risky strategy for GM to come out with too many high displacement vehicles. I think that's a wish list for the most part. Better off picking 5 of 18.

although my point was the 4.6L design/size has been around for a long time.
by the time the 2010 comes around, it'll have at least 5 years,
and thats not to say that they can't use that engine in other vehicles.
So it doesn't have to be abandoned if its not going to be in the stang anymore... even then... other engines have been dropped in less time and never used again

They are larger displacements than we have and get great gas mileage. Not to mention packaging size.
No reason why the BOSS engines can't have good mileage as well.
This coupled with a 6 speed tranny and some other toys on the engine as well.
Ford knows that it has to have Fuel Economy as part of the equation.
Whats risky about having a good mileage car with a lot of power?
It's the best part of both words.

The rumour on the street was that the 2009 (originally)
was to be a slight refresh (front end...wheels yada yada) like not even a reskin. And to hold off the total reskin till the future (or in the C/D case 2012)
Apparently Mark Fields saw this and said 'oh hell no' (especially with the new camaro/challenger coming out... a simple front end change wouldn't cut the mustard) so he pushed forward the reskin, but it would force the year to be pushed by one...2010....
The avatar you have is just the 2005s concept (which was designed after the final 05 .. not the other way around) it is not an '08.

The displacement race is getting insane. It could rapidly come crashing down.

You folks realize that NONE of those styling trail ballons are accurate right? You are just another free focus group. Which is pretty good allocation of capital on fords part. And since this is a wish list, I personally would like to see the 10-12 redo include a set of electric motors(50-80 horse?) that make all of their torque at 0 rpm(talk about old school bottom end punch!) on the front wheels with a great controller and then we wuold have an AWD Mustang that might actually be able to launch all that horsepower you folks are asking for.

how might one get 50 horsepower at 0RPM?
if you've invented such a device, please let us know.
but i do like the idea. dont know how it would all get shoe-horned under the hood though.... 4.6Ls are pretty big

Here's what caught my eye >>
I thought the GT500 was only to be a three year run: 07/08/09. This implies that there will, indeed, be a next generation of Shelby GT500.
So much for exclusivity. Hope those early buyers are enjoying their cars now, cause in a few years they'll be kicking themselves for paying $60-75K.

Speculation, same engine, just turning up the dial, as we know that engine can just turn on tuned Horsepower

Well their may or may not be a GT500 labelled car (I don't know..i'm not psychic) but whatever they call it, i'm sure it'll be there.
Say for example if its say a Cobra...or whatever.

Boomer, are you implying that this report is bogus?
"Saleen said he recently spoke with Ford CEO Alan Mulally, who said the 2009 GT Mustang will get a bump from 300 hp up to 350 horsepower. Mulally also said the GT500 would get get a modest 15 horsepower increase over its already impressive 500 horsepower."
What about the facelift? Bogus too?
Are you implying that there will be no changes until the 2010MY?
I expected a facelift for 08MY or 09MY.

Technically speaking ?? the 09 Mustang will be released during the 2010 model year as a 10..So in that respect he's correct about the facelift.. it was pushed back a year by Mark Fields from what I recall..
