Making a GT competitive with the 2017 ZL1

I've been doing some reading on the new 1le and zl1. Is it possible to modify a GT to beat the new zl1 on a track(not drag racing).

What mods would be required to do such a thing. The zl1 with the 8 speed auto looks brutally quick. I expect it to get a sub 7.20 on the Nurburgring.

It would be probably better idea of sticking a supercharger on a gt350 and come out cheaper then modify a GT to meat or beat ZL1 numbers.

I'm toying with the idea. My GT is fully paid off and I don't want to get another car loan. The z06 c6 looks to be the best option, but I would really rather keep the mustang.

For GT Mustang? Not even close.

First you need 600 hp and tq at the wheels. For a stock internals Coyote that's asking right at the edge. And then there is cooling...
Then you need a clutch, transmission, driveshaft and dif which can handle that power reliably. Then you need 325 rears and 305 fronts. Then you need the chassis stiffening to handle the grip. Then you need a suspension which won't buckle under the load. Not to mention brakes which can shed the kinetic energy.

So it might be cheaper just to go for the ZL1.

Exactly lol.

We are talking over 20k in aftermarket parts to potentially even come near a zl1. The s197 and especially the newest zl1 coming out are very different cars.
Although Im no GM fan as most of their cars are garbage, the zl1 is a superior machine from an engineering standpoint.

It actually has the new Chevy/Ford 10 speed auto. 3.5 zero to sixty.

I agree. New Camaros, specially the 1LE and ZL1 are built specifically for track work. Mustangs are designed to be street cars, with track work as an afterthought or an additional benefit, except for the GT350.

I agree with all the above. Our baseline GT's are good cars, but severely pale in comparison to a great car like the NEW '17 ZL1. Not even worth mentioning in the same breadth.
