Low oil

Have 10k on new 2011gt, checked oil for first time and it seems I'm at least 3litre low. Is this normal consumption and do you think there could be damage? I know 10 k seems like a long time to check oil but bought new month and a half ago and has been on a number of road trips.

You shouldn't even have a reading on the
Dipstick then, 3 litres is not normal oil consumption.

Wow, I'm gonna say that's not normal. There was another guy on here who's oil got waaay too low, but didn't realize it until it was too late.

I feel like an idiot for not checking oil sooner. Assumed, new car, why would it not be good. Now that I'm listening, the engine seems to vibrate and make a slight shudder in first and second under moderate load at around 3000 rpm. Also notice it seems slightly underpowered compared to what it was at new. Seems like it is taking higher Rpm to achieve same speed in same time as before. There was no oil pressure indications of an issue. Engine was down 4 liters to get back to full. But with no oil pressure warning, does that mean the engine was never starved of oil? Could the slight noises and low power be signs of cam lobe wear? Thanks for the help guys.

If the pressure gauge showed good all the time, there should not be a problem. Did you return it to the dealer with the low oil? If so, good....

Check the oil at 10K km???
I would have changed the oil before that.
My Mustangs usually go less than 4K km before a change.
I think the longest I have ever gone without a change is 8K km in any car in the past 20 years.
First of all the RPMs should not change in relation to speed, only the time it takes to get to a speed will change.
Secondly now that you know you have run on lower oil, you will hear every little noise from now on even if it is not damaged.

It's amazing how many people don't check their oil.

I think it would be wise to check everything as soon as you get home, after reading, on another thread, that checking the oil was no longer part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection. I came home, and immediately looked under the hood, checking for leaks around hose clamps, and under the car for drips. It was a 20 mile drive, from the dealer, on a hot day, also looked at the coolant overflow container to see where the level was when hot. Waited about three hours and then did the oil level and tire pressure. Just a little ****...but with the level of dealer service I have seen on here, better safe then sorry.

I can't decide if I'm hearing things or there is some wear. Will take to dealership tomorrow for a check over. Manual says to change oil after 16k and check oil once per month....I'm a loser!

Well... Not good... 3,000 to 6,000 miles on one oil change max.

And I can explain the shudder you feel under high rpm and when the tranny shifts. These engines have a vvt system that is controled by oil pressure. When the oil gets really thin, do to the lack of oil changes. The pressure in the vvt is off and voided it to not function correctly. The computer will try and compensate with the problem by messing with the shift points. A good oil change should fix the problem. Unless you already did some nasty damage.
