I used to visit that site a lot, but never joined. I have nothing against the Camaro, to each his own, but the owners and Camaro-faithful really do give themselves a bad name with all the bans and things they say about the Mustang.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I think it'll be interesting, if a Z28 ever does come out, what they'll say then. That thing is going to be a tank. If it has the LSA from the CTS-V, a car which weighs almost 400lbs more than the 3.6 CTS, according to any weight data I could find about the two cars. I think we can reasonably argue that the Z28 will probably gain at least 250lbs over the v6 Camaro. (I'm sure all of the CTS-V weight isn't just from the engine, but how much does a supercharged 6.2L v8 weigh over the 3.6L v6? I figure 250lbs is a pretty reasonable guess. The iron-block from the GT500 weighed quite a bit more than the heavy 4.0L from the old v6.) So, what, that's around 4000+ pounds, at least? When the GT500 has almost the power of the LSA and weighs less than the current SS, things aren't looking to great for the mythical Z28. I can't see them shaving much, if any, weight off the Camaro to make the Z28 competitive. Just something I've been thinking about lately. Again, I want to see what everyone will say then. The price isn't going to undercut the GT500, either.

But let's not forget the comparo in the "Drivers Car" article:
http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...car/index.html

FORD SHELBY GT500
  • CURB WEIGHT (DIST F/R): 3903 lb (58/42%)
  • 1/4 mile: 12.8
  • Laguna Seca Lap: 104.3
http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...lby_gt500.html

CADILLAC CTS-V
  • CURB WEIGHT (DIST F/R): 4277 lb (54/46%)
  • 1/4 mile: 12.6
  • Laguna Seca Lap: 103.9
http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...lac_cts_v.html

With the same drive-train I doubt the Z28 will be as heavy as the CTS-V. And the V already beat the GT500 in this comparison. Either way, it's gonna be a battle!

Yes, this was the reaction on Cam 5 after the engine numbers for the 2011 Mustang came out. They had to find something to complain about. After this was dispelled, they retreated to the subjective topic of style.

That MT 1/4 time for the Shelby is pathetic. I'll be nice and chalk it up to street tires on a non-prepped track. MM&FF wheeled a 2010 to an 11.95 on the stock rubber (prepped track). That 12.8 is a time that a hack like myself would run.

Heh. This was the email I received. Lol its always the same guy that bans me...GTAIV or something like that..

Reason: Violation of Forum Rules / Code of Conduct (Second Violation) (10 day ban)
-------
If your only reason for being here is to act as the Mustang voice of reason then you should find another camaro forum.

Otherwise when you come back keep your cynical and sarcastic posts off our forum.

The funny part is I have called him on acting like this before. They want to claim that have such a open and fair site, but lol as soon as they see a Mustang in your sig, its game over. I guess they did get mad when I called them on what I said. The very same people who go on about how a GT500 cost to much and a SS can be faster for cheaper, were the very same who now thinks a Z/28 for a GT500 price is A-OK.

Oh well. I see the thread was posted up already. I cannot wait till the tests for the GT hit...its really going to get fun then !

Here's a classic reason why Camaro5 as a forum is an epic fail - here's a quote from one of their moderators...

"waiting for the mustang guys to come in here and ask us to thank them next....."

So he bans someone for being a "troll", then turns around and trolls himself. I'm very happy to say I have NEVER seen anything even remotely like that here on TMS in the five plus years I've been a member here - the staff here on TMS are a top notch group, and I appreciate all the hard work Brad and the staff have done keeping this forum going for everyone to enjoy.

Yeah, but just like they got the GT500 to a better time, they probably would get the CTS-V to a better time, too. The Z28 will also be lighter than the CTS-V. And it still did better on the track. Doesn't stop me from wanting the Shelby, though.

I understand the comparison but it isn't that simple. First, and most importantly, the Z28 isn't out yet. No one knows what it's final configuration will look like. Second, a PP equipped Shelby should be quicker than the '10 in the MT article. It makes nearly the same power as the CTS-V, weighs nearly 400lbs less and is geared better (optional 3.73). The Caddy's badass, though. As far as MT goes, I won't be surprised at all when they can't put an '11 under 13 seconds. If 12.8 is the best they could do with the Shelby, well, brace yourselves. Might be ugly. And they'll complain about the SRA.

I was wondering though, why would you guys want to hang out on a Camaro forum anyway? Just curious. Personally I could care less what they think about the Mustang. Their opinion matters to me about as much as an import forum would.

Like I said, I used to go there to "spy". See what the competition is up to. There are guys on there with some crazy fast cars, with like 4 bolt ons haha.

I've dealt with C5 numerous times, and it always comes back to the same douchey attitude and mullet rockers that stick up for that car. While I think the Camaro has its ups (styling, motor, etc), those guys worship it like no group I've ever seen before.

Someone still needs to remind them that IROC = Italian Retard Out Cruising, and that the Z28 is still a pipe dream, even if it's going around Milford Proving Grounds. GM has a habit of building wild prototypes/mules, running them around, then never letting them see the light of day. Look into all of the C4 ZR1 mules they made, like the one with the fluid damping suspension that was too costly to build.

Bottom line, there are enthusiasts, and there are morons. C5 contains more of the latter.

I almost asked for a guido shame discount when I went to the Chevy dealership to try one out. Though, the Monte Carlo SS was the true guido mobile growing up on Long Island. Still, I was happy with the V6 Camaro except for the visibility and price tag compared to the V6 Mustang. Even with the 2011 price increase the Mustang is still a better buy for what you get.

I used to be on that site too, almost daily. I even kept quiet about owning a Mustang until one day I posted a pic of my mustang parked next to the infamous thor. Then one of the resident zombies said my car looked scared. I've been on a self banned vacation pretty much since then.
