Interesting. Back in the day of the 69-70 Boss 302's, they were rated at around 290 hp (a lie of sorts to skirt around the insurance companies...more like 350 HP). Today, we can get 305 out of a V6. Not too bad for 2 cylinders less, and a lighter car.
The specs for a 70 Boss 302:
1970 Boss 302 Mustang
Engine Type:V8Displacement:5000 ccHorsepower:290 bhp @ 5800 rpmTorque:290 lb-ft @ 4300 rpmPerformance 0-60 mph:6.9 sec0-100 mph:--.- secQuarter Mile:14.6 sec @ 98 mph
The specs for a 2011 V6:
0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.7 at 102.0 mph.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have any true Boss 302 in my garage. I'm not however embarrassed at all in owning a V6 Mustang. It gets driven daily, and makes the daily 200 mile round trip fun. And of course, there's no comparison to the GT's of today. Just saying the V6 is no slouch.
If I owned an original Boss, I doubt I'd drive it that often.
