just wondering about clutch replacement

Why do all the kits come with pressure plates?
do they want new springs put it when you change the clutch or what?

It is possible to replace only the disc, but ideally the pressure plate, disc and throw out bearing should be replaced as well as resurfacing the flywheel. The spring in the pressure plate is subject to fatigue and the friction surfaces of both the pressure plate and flywheel are subject to heat checking and micro cracks. The throw out bearing is relatively cheap and since you already have the transmission out it just makes good sense to replace it while everything is apart.

If you put a straight edge across the face of your old pressure plate, you'll see why it needs to be changed when putting in a new disk. And resurfacing the flywheel is a good idea too.

My clutch was replaced under warranty. They had to replace the flywheel also. Ford redesigned the clutch and it was not compatible with the old clutch.
