Is it just me or does the GT resemble a mid 80s Aston Martin Vantage?.....
Hey guys, first post here, so don't shoot me for asking, please.
Anyway, remember the fairly forgettable Timothy Dalton era James Bond movie called The Living Daylights? I haven't seen that movie in quite some time, but it seems to me that the new GT resembles his "Bond car", which I believe was an 86 or 87 Aston Martin Vantage. I don't say this as a criticism, I remember liking that car a great deal and it being one of the few high points to that movie. I wish I had some pics for comparison, but I don't.
Anyone else see what I'm seeing or am I nuts?

Can't say whether you're nuts or not, but the same impression was noted somewhere else in these threads a few weeks ago. With pics. don't recall where off-hand, but with a little patience you should be able to search & find...
Or does the Aston Martin resemble a '60's era Mustang? Or a Fiat Dino Coupe?
I've always thought of the Aston Martin DB(?) / Vantage as sort of the world's fanciest Mustang extant. In many ways, it was very similar in general size, layout and configuration to a '69-'70 351 or 428 fastback taken the the Nth degree of refinement, and price. Perhaps where the standard versions were analogous to a 351 Cleveland Stang GT, the Vantage would be a 428 Mach I or Boss 429.
As for the '10, only in so much that it possesses the overall Stang design DNA, then there will be some resemblance to the Aston Martin too.

perhaps less of a copying of Mustangs than a case of parallel evolution. Indeed, the Mustang was cast somewhat more in a European GT / sport coupe vain as much as a traditional American "muscle car" idiom. You could see some broad design similarities in other cars such as the Fiat Dino Coupe, Lancia Aurelia and others. Undoubtedly the various designers were well aware of each other efforts and perhaps there was some cross-pollination going on, though I think it would be a stretch to call one a copy of another.
As for the Aston's black diaper, IIRC, that appeared on later variants, perhaps necessitated by emissions and other requirements, and looked no better than the one on the '10 Stang.

I think Rhumb has the right idea. Given the design and styling idioms of the times, these and many other designs basically grew from the same underlying concepts as to what would appeal to the consumers. Not so much "copied" as "sharing the same influences"...
When this particular AM body style first debuted in 1967, it had a very un Mustang-like grille treatment:

Then in 1972, it got a new Mustang like front end which it kept until the nineties:

It had the "diaper" even way back in 1967:

Thanks Coop, I even pointed it out about the 05's when they came out but the 2010's look even more so like an Aston Martin in my book, which is one thing I Really Love about the 2010's. It doesn't hurt that a $27,000 Mustang resembles a $100,000 Aston Martin in my opinion.

As for the Diaper on the Aston's, I think that's just Hysterical! I never even noticed it before, and Aston Martin's have always been one of my Favorite Cars.
Now, I love the current generation of Aston Martins. They are probably the most beautiful cars on sale. However, I'd like to see at least one model return to the brutish looks of the 70's and 80's cars.
Perhaps one of our Photoshop experts could graft the Aston grille onto a 2010 Mustang
