Just got my mustang but I'm getting horrible gas milage

Hey guys and gals I just purchased a used 2013 v6 mustang with 77000 miles about a month ago. When I bought the car I noticed it had an airaid cai and a bbk throttle body I believe it is a 7,3 it also has a sound system in the car but no box with speakers in the trunk. As of today I am getting about 12.5 mpg driving in the city and was wondering if my horrible gas mileage is because of the aftermarket throttle body and cai also I'm assuming it has a tune as well but I will have to go to Ford to find out l. Also I want to get bbk short headers for my mustang any advice on them before the purchace (how long do they last, do they require extra maintenance will I need to retune my car once installed)

Something not right unless you are flooring it on every launch. My supercharged 5.0 gets 17 in the city.

I thought 12 mpg was extremely low even with a tune and throttle body I'll take it to a ford dealer asap

My '14 V6 automatic gets about 20 around town, and with the relatively high speed limits on surface streets around here I am a wee bit lead footed.

Well, when the tires are spinning, the gas is being converted to tire smoke instead of forward momentum, that might be part of the problem . . . ;-)

Be sure to check the mileage the old fashioned way; and also reset the mileage counter; before you go too far on a wild goose chase

How did you calculate the mpg? I would start with basics, did the car have regular maintenance, spark plugs changed, tire pressure, etc.

12.5 mpg is bad. I'm getting a little over 20 mpg in town, and I have 3.73 rear gears on my 2011 v6. Let us know what was wrong with your Mustang.

To OP:
Did you find out your problem with your low MPG?
mine is also doing something like that.
for the first two months I got nice mpg's
21-25 mpg, then I changed my axle back.
my car had a total, big service from the dealer I bought it from.

But now I only get 4-11 mpg.
