Just drove a 2011 Mustang GT and I'm not sure I like it!

Hmm, maybe it does have to do with the gear ratios? It is a 6 speed after all, maybe that was the problem?

I just know that my 2008 GT will push you into the seats when I do 0-60. I didn't have that feeling with this car, but you do have to go through more gears to get there......

a 3.73 geared car will do 60 mph in 2nd gear so no extra shifts

and compared to a 3.55 geared car the difference is about 200 rpm, that's definitely not a long pull

maybe what you're feeling as less oomph is the willingness for this motor to rev and how smoothly it does it combined with the composure of the chassis

your 4.6 probably labors more to rev and the body bounces back and forth between gearshifts...it's a physical illusion that makes it feel like it pushes you back into the seat

Why do you assume the 4.6 labors more to redline?

While the 5.0 has larger displacement/HP and TiVCT, it also has a lot more valve train to drive (2 more cams + 8 lobes, roller followers, & valve springs) compared to the 4.6 3V VCT.

MT has Bullitt at 5.0 for 0-60 (3.73 w/235/50x18's - 27.2" diameter).
It has the 2011 5.0/3.73 at 4.3, (3.73 w/255/40x19's - 27.0" diameter)
I can't seem to find 0-60 for the 3.31 & 3.55's...
Regardless, can you really feel that as you suggest?

As to body movement I won't comment since an 08 GT is different from my car, and the 2011 19" tires are better handling than Bullitt's stock BFG's. (.94g lateral 2011 vs .87g B... but can you really feel that as you suggest?) A different set of tires on Bullitt can add improvement but there was no choice at time of order.

Haha, I was way too tired when I took the pics. I had not been to bed yet as I had to attend my Daughters award ceremony that morning. It was in the showroom when I went back and I had my kids with me anyway.

How did those stripes look in person. They must have just put those on. They look good in the picture.

the only way they can be mistaken is if this is a troll thread. its night and day. the 2011 is a beast and the 05-09 is merely a decent car.

i admit and everyone knows how i felt before i got my car. if i had driven one i would have kept quiet. there werent any out there when i got mine.
Ludicrous! I can assure you he is not a troll. I'm not even sure how you could even come to that conclusion.

I had an 08 also and i can see what you are saying. I felt the same way you do but just test driving the car and not really getting into it is were the difference is. With the 08 it is an illusion because of the louder exhaust and louder cabin. I know this car is faster and more powerful that my 08 because when i get into it, it rips the road up and you are pinned. One time i did it with my daughter in the back seat and she told me she felt she was going to puke. Never said this with my 08. Both my GT's were auto's also. You really need to give the car a fair shake and let her rip to give it a real comparison. Plus the car is way more than 0-60. It just does everything better than the 08.

At this point, I would do another test drive... another 3.73 gear manual trans car. Make sure you get on it like you would your own (trac off) and set the seat and mirrors similar to your car.

To be honest, my '05 GT doesn't throw me back into my seat as much as other cars I've driven, but it still feels fast -best 1/4 mi of 13.8 w/ full size 18" spare, street tires and inexperienced driver (me). I expect with the refinements of the 2010+, the fast feel will be a bit reduced/(isolated) and thats fine for me as long as I know I can improve my 1/4 mi times, continue to edge out GTOs on light to light runs and feel more confident cornering on track days.

I know this car is faster as i used to lose to my brother n laws auto SS by a car length with my auto 08 and that was with CAI and tune. Now i beat him by a car and a half with my auto '11.

you get my point. theres no way he is serious. if he doesnt like the 2011, he doesnt like it. but to say there's no difference?

The difference in actual peformance numbers between a 2008 GT and a 2011 GT is similar to the difference in performance between a 1999 GT and a 1999 LS1 F-body. The F-body is signifcantly faster, as evidenced by all the performance numbers, yet the GT "feels" better to many folks, for any number of reasons. It depends upon what you're after - how the car feels, or how the car actually performs.....they are not always the same.

In the end, its your car and your money. Choose what is right for YOU.

BTW....more gear (steeper) will make a car "feel" faster than one that has less gear because it multiplies torque at the wheel more.

The number of valves and cams that a chain connected to a crankshaft must turn is not going to change the "feel" of the way the car accelerates. The extra power made available by using that setup more than makes up for the very small increase in resistance. Otherwise, what would be the point of doing it?

The 4.6 "labors" more to redline simply because each HP has to pull around more weight, and do it with less torque multiplication (at the wheels). This is why the 2011 is quicker.

As stated above...."feel" is a different matter.

this is telling me that your sense of speed is screwed up, this car actualy pushes me inot the seat where my 2008 just made noise..........................................

Why? I'm not sure. I didn't do too well with the 6 speed trans, I'm not used to that. I have a 5 speed in my 08 GT shown on the left and I mis shifted on the test drive into 5th gear when I was going for 3rd. lol

It is a little harder to see out of the 2011 compared to my 08. I really noticed this after the test drive when I got back into my 08.

The 2011 didn't "feel" as fast as my 08. I'm not quite sure why? Maybe it's too quiet? My '08 with the Flowmasters on it isn't quiet. lol

I'm not sure what to do now. I've gotten kind of worn out by the LONG wait for this car, and now I'm not sure I even want it any more....

What should I do now? I'm thinking about cancelling my order, what do you guys think?

My buddy thought the same thing: I think he felt that his buddies 2008 was as quick as my 2011-until we raced and by 3rd gear I had 3 car lengths on him and still pulling. I think the 2011 is so much more refined it may to some people not feel as fast. I agree when I first test drove the car i was like yeah its fast but nothing jaw dropping IMO. Then again I came from a 2004 Cobra with some bolts on. None the less I think the 2011 Gt is going to be a tremendous car and hell I have a little account set up for mods once they begin rolling in. My 2cents

Just yesterday I went through 0-100 mph and noticed near redline in my 5 speed 2008 manual;

0-40 mph in 1st gear

41-65/70 mph in 2nd gear

70-100 mph in 3rd gear and I stop there!

Pretty cool being able to go 100 mph in only 3rd out of 5 gears!

It took two test drives for me to really get comfortable with the car, just try it again, I'm sure the experience will be more rewarding the next time around. The 2011 car doesn't make you feel like
an outlaw who should be arrested at any stoplight, it has a more upscale feel and power delivery, I heard rumors that the M3 was the benchmark for Ford, this makes sense to me now.

I'm sure you'll feel right at home on the next drive, but it's your money, take the time and make sure the 2011 is right for you.

Thanks, I think you may be right. I was after all only in the car for 10-15 minutes. I think maybe I'm just not used to a six speed, but I was starting to get a little used to it by the end of the test drive. Plus, I tend not to trash it with somebody in the car as I would if I was alone.

I think I may call my Dealer and see if they have a 2011 GT that I can drive. The test drive took place at a different dealer then the one I ordered from. I think that might help me make a decision on the 2011 GT.

It would be kind of silly to wait all this time and then cancel at the last minute. lol

Tread, I didn't really like the stripes, but then I don't really like strips too much anyways. I'm sure a lot of people would like them. I did like the Race Red after seeing it in person. Nice and bright, just the way I like it.

Here's a couple more pics from yesterday......

If you used 2.73s and put 28" tires on it, you could probably get to 100 mph in only 2nd out of 5 gears.

Not sure what the point would be, but if getting to 100 mph in 3rd out of 5 is good, then getting t0 100 mph in 2nd out of 5 gears must be more better.

Oh sure, beat him up for having fun with his car.
Maybe what he is getting at is that at 100mph you have only gone about a 1/4 mile and you are still in 3rd.
Personally, I think that is pretty cool.
