Just drove a 2011 Mustang GT and I'm not sure I like it!

OK, I just got back from driving a brand new 2011 GT with the 6 speed manual with the 3.73 gears just like I'm ordering and I'm not sure I liked it?

Why? I'm not sure. I didn't do too well with the 6 speed trans, I'm not used to that. I have a 5 speed in my 08 GT shown on the left and I mis shifted on the test drive into 5th gear when I was going for 3rd. lol

It is a little harder to see out of the 2011 compared to my 08. I really noticed this after the test drive when I got back into my 08.

The 2011 didn't "feel" as fast as my 08. I'm not quite sure why? Maybe it's too quiet? My '08 with the Flowmasters on it isn't quiet. lol

I'm not sure what to do now. I've gotten kind of worn out by the LONG wait for this car, and now I'm not sure I even want it any more....

What should I do now? I'm thinking about cancelling my order, what do you guys think?

I've heard about this several times now. Most who have driven the 2011 seem to think it's less inspiring than their 2005-2009. Most have attributed this to a smoother torque curve combined with a refined interior.

BTW, which dealer is this that has the 2011 you drove on the lot?

I amk not sure how in the world you came to thsi conclusion.....

I had a 2008 GT/CS with flowmasters ad a tune and this car INSTANTLY made me forget the 08.

The overal power and speed of the 11 is MILES ahead of the 08. you must have been behaving on the test drive because if your ripping on that 11 and you have ANY question which is faster your "gut/butt feeler" is broken LOL

The shifter I had issue with for the first 3 days I owned the car and then I got used to it and it was neer an issue again.

seve4ral of my local friends went from 2005-2009's and we all agree unnamiously agree the new car is a HUGE step up in speed.

Generally it's what Fritz says, refined interior makes it very quiet, thus the engine doesn't sound like it's pumping, and the torque curve probably contributes. It whams you gradually with steady acceleration as opposed to whamming you all at once. You might notice a wham when you reach a certain RPM on the '08 (my V6 from '04 feels like it happens around 3000 RPM, but it's fairly weak sauce). I'm not sure how much I can say really since I haven't driven one yet, but from various reactions, it really doesn't hit you until about 4000 RPM.

This thread deals with a lot of the same issues, and likely a lot of the same answers, and the guy later went back and test drove it again and was much more impressed the second time: https://themustangsource.com/f726/wt...-drive-483960/

Are the 3.73's too steep for 1st and 2nd in the 6spd so you're not getting the same buttometer feel?

I was thinking that maybe it raps up so fast you don't have that same swoosh of acceleration from a longer pull like you feel from 1st & 2nd in the 5spd with 3.73's.

Like an F150. Granny gear is a stump puller out of the hole for sure. But you're at redline shifting so fast, it really didn't feel like that much acceleration... Sure you jumped out of the hole, but the other guy goes by you as you are shifting your way to 3rd where you finally get a long pull of the motor without having to shift so soon.

You test drove and didn't like it...so why are you buying it? If you like the mustang your driving now and are happy with it...why change?

Sorry bud, but I think you are crazy. I guarantee if you just wait it out you are gonna fall in love with the 2011. From what I've experienced, I dont think the 05-09 models come anywhere near close to the 11's. Then again, maybe I am crazy for appreciating a smoother power curve and tighter suspension.

well ive driven plenty of 05-09's and there is no mistaking the added power and torque.

the only way they can be mistaken is if this is a troll thread. its night and day. the 2011 is a beast and the 05-09 is merely a decent car.

i admit and everyone knows how i felt before i got my car. if i had driven one i would have kept quiet. there werent any out there when i got mine.

Yes, he joined TMS 6 years ago and made 3000 posts in anticipation of "trolling" the 2010 section for 5.0 owners because he is a 05-09 fanboy. Diabolical.

If your happy with your current Mustang, you might just cancel and think about getting a 2014 50th anniversary Stang.

Take another test drive and disable the AdvanceTrac system for full power by pressing and holding the button for 5 seconds with the brake pressed. Then see how you like it! I'd say in the end, you would be sorry if you cancelled your order.

Hmm, I didn't think of that! Thanks!

Yes, that's what it felt like. But, maybe I was too nice on the test drive?

maybe it has to do with the fact that the manual transmission is a imported Chinese piece of junk?

I drove one the other day and it was a sweet ride. I was at another dealer today that had one almost exactly what I'm looking for, as I was looking at the various 5.0s they had, I noticed on the sticker it said that the transmission is made in China. I was quite irritated with that. I told the sales rep and he was like what? I said yes look at the one right here. I went back to look at the one i was interested in (5.0 with automatic) and at least the automatic is made in the US.

I've read enough now that I'm convinced that my choice would be the 3.55's in the new 6 spd.

The 3.73's with the 6 spd are like the 4.10's in the 5 spd - and 1st is useless with the 4.10's.

Quick Reply: Just drove a 2011 Mustang GT and I'm not sure I like it!
