Question Inventory search question

Hi,

New Member here. I have been a life long Chevy Man but, recent developments with GM have turned me away from their products. I can not in good conscience buy a vehicle from looters. So much for my rant.

The Wife wants a 2011 Mustang and she has picked out what she wants but the problem is there is not one with the exact options that she wants anywhere around where we live (North Florida). I actually have searched using different zipcodes in about a 300 mile radius. I am wondering if there is some way to broaden the search without having to keep changing zipcodes. I have tried Ford's "Let us find it for you" feature but it does not allow input of all the options and I don't want to be contacted by every dealer that has something that matches the rough outline of what we are looking for. She wants the V6 premium package in performance white, the pony package with the Mustang decal, auto tranny and if possible Lovres and side scoops. The Ford search does not allow for all these options.

Any help would be appeciated.

Rick.

There isn't much inventory on the ground yet so finding specific cars may be tough. Why don't you just order a car and get exactly what you want?

Rick all the cars were on hold until late April and Retail Orders (Customer Cars) had priority in both manufacture and shipping. Its going to be slim pickings on stock cars for a while. Your best option would be to spec out exactly what you want and order it. Most of the dealers Ive spoken with dont expect to see most of their stock orders starting to trickle in until late June.

You may also want to use Cars.com to search for cars as well as the Ford Site.

I would love to be able to search more too. It seems like the default search area is only 5-10 miles, which makes searching a pain. Since you're in Florida, I did notice a bunch on the ground in the Tampa area.

Ditto. If you have a very specific list, ordering is the best way to go (that's why I'm holding out for my delivery!)

Yeah, at the early stage of production ordering is (usually) the way to go. It's a bit hit or miss on if dealers will get it stock and have something exactly like (or even close to) what you want. I considered waiting to see what hit the streets, but I knew the car I wanted wasn't likely to turn up, and the Camaro SS went at sticker price for a looong time. I realized I could save a good chunk of cash ordering (that's just easy revenue for the dealer. Slap it in a computer, wait 6-8 weeks. Bam. No dealer-to-dealer trades or any hassle other than potentially an annoying customer calling every other day ). You should be able to get invoice by ordering. Also don't forget the $750 off offer you can get by ordering a Mustang brochure from Ford. Mine took about 2 1/2 weeks to get here. There's a thread devoted to this somewhere.

A dealer can do a broader search for you.

There were a couple hundred 2011's listed across the country on cars.com, some are pre-listed though, not actually on the lots yet.

Like has been said, order to get exactly the options you want or wait and hope some dealer gets one.

I should have added that we are planning on going on vacation the end of June and were hoping to have it by then. I have talked to a local dealer about ordering one and he said it would probably take longer than that if we ordered.

Rick,

My guess is that it will take six to eight weeks from order to delivery. See if your dealer can find a white v6 premium with pony package and automatic transmission. The rest of the stuff your wife wants can be ordered as dealer installed options. This way you can have your car before your trip. Good luck and welcome to TMS.

I am getting old and senile. After re-reading my original post the only other option that we wanted was the 3.31 gear. I have found 2 looking on cars.com so far (thanks for the idea to check there) only problem is they are in Texas. I have no idea what it would cost to have one shipped from there one is 766 miles the other is about 900 miles.

Go to a dealer and have them check for the car. I kept looking online and couldn't find any 5.0 w/3.73 gears anywhere near me. I called the dealer and they found about 12 within 400 miles of me. I am going this morning to look at a Kona Blue 5.0 w/6spd that is only 50 miles from me; I already called ahead and held the car so no one can drive it.

Order the exact car you want. It is a big expense and something you will probably have for many years. Don't comprise so you can drive it on vacation. If you want a Mustang that bad for vacation rent one.

We will defineatly will get what we want. I was just hoping to find one nearby so we wouldn't have to wait. We had already planned on renting a car not necessarily a Mustang to go on vacation. I got a call from the local dealer this am when we were there yesterday there was some kind of problem with Ford's order system and he couldn't place the order. He said he has it ready to go I just need to come in and give a deposit. They said yesterday that Ford adds orders on Thursdays so it won't delay it anyway.

Just got back from the dealer. I think I am getting ripped off. Maybe someone who has ordered a Mustang can enlighten me. I got dealer invoice pricing + $100 but, there was a FDAF Assessment of $486 added to the invoice also the dealer charged a $595.95 Administrative fee. Is this normal? They claimed that the FDAF assessment was a fee that ford charged them for advertisement. So I have pay for advertisement? Also with the dealer invoice pricing there are hold backs to cover administrative fees. So am I wrong or should I just accept the charges which add over $1000 to the price of the car. Also I signed the Buyers order form and gave them a $1000 deposit can I back out of that or am I screwed?

FDAF is legit, you'll also pay a fuel surcharge for the full gas tank. I'm not a dealer, but everyone here, myself included paid an admin fee (unless I'm missing something). I'm under the impression holdback doesn't account for admin fees, though $595 and some change is a pretty high admin fee. I think mine was around $125 and in that neighborhood for the other 5 dealers I took quotes from. $100 over invoice is pretty good though.

Depends on your state. I'm in NY and or doc fee is $75. The FDAF fee is legit. By the way, shouldn't you have asked these questions prior to buying the car?

The best deal anyone has gotten that Ive seen is $500 under invoice with a $90 Doc Fee. So the way I consider things thats $410 under invoice on a loaded up GT Coupe. You should be able to get the car for Invoice if you order.
The dealer is about $700 to high. If he wants add that Adm Fee no problem.... As long as he goes $600 under invoice.

The total deal should be invoice including everything but Tax and Title. I believe Karpro (Above) would do it for that
but I always suggest going local if you can. If no one wants to sell you a car order from him (or another forum dealer) and let Ford ship it to a local dealer for prep. Doesnt cost you anything. Ford doesnt care which dealer they ship your car to.

I am going to call the dealer this AM and if they won't come off the admin fee I am going to shop around for a better deal and cancel my order. This has been eating at me all weekend everytime I look at the contract I get madder at myself. If no one around here will deal with me I will try and deal with one of the forum dealers.

Just called another local dealer he said they charge the same $599 admin fee. Claimed that includes 2 years of oil changes and tire rotation. I can and do change my own oil and rotate tires. Besides after break-in I run Amsoil Synthetic Oil.

maybe it's a little late now, but back to your original question --

cars.com seems to have real good search capabilities, and you can broaden the search as wide as you want . . . probably not as specific on options as the Ford inventory search, but you can plug in large distances from your zip code, and search on basic options like automatic/manual transmission, Premium or Base, V6/V8 engine.
