Improved Racing Filter Relocation
I've been looking at options for oil filter relocation, because I hate where our oil filters are located. No matter how careful, I always manage to drip some oil on the oil change undercover, the crossmember and my garage floor.
I've been looking at the gear from improvedracing.com. Their stuff looks very high quality and they seem to have a solution to every problem. I'm looking at the following components:
http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-co...unt-p-830.html
http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-co...ead-p-874.html
Just wondering if anybody's used this or something similar, and what size fittings/lines are appropriate?

Have you tried a Form-A-Funnel? I use one to direct the filter drain away from the steering rack/crossmember/aeroshield.

I installed a remote oil filter on my 2003 cobra. It was installed in the area the battery once occupied, the battery was moved to trunk. It was convenient but I always had the fear one of the hoses would somehow come off and the oil loss would damage the engine. I used AN fittings and high pressure oil lines per mfg. Would I do it again, no I wouldn't. I now give the filter a half turn then poke a small hole in the filter and let it drain. When the oil stops I remove the filter with no mess.

I really like the way Subaru puts their oil filters up on top; such a wonderful and mess-free idea!
But I would not trust myself to do that kind of relocation, like motor12 I would be afraid that the plumbing would spring a leak somewhere.
I have tried various methods, such as the plastic bag method, and have pretty much given up and decided the "just let the oil spill all over the place and then clean it up" method is the best. But I haven't tried this "poke a hole in the filter" method yet, I think I'll try that next time.

Where would you mount the remote filter? Even though I have a lot more room in the engine compartment that you do, I'm still having a problem finding a place for it. I'm ready to do it, but placement is holding me back.

I might have to try Motor12's method to drain the filter first. Containing the mees from the oil filter is the worst part of changing the oil. My wife's Miata is even worse than the Mustang due to there being very little room to get at the filter. My wife's Saturn has the cartridge style filter up top...no mess at all. And my Corvair's filter is held on by a bolt and hangs stright down. I slip a bag under the filter, remove the bolt, and everything is in the bag.
