Importing 2013 Mustangs to Canada
It is not a benefit to do this with all cars.
however doing it with the more expensive cars IS worth it.
I would say on a V6 its not worth it, GT you can save a bit of coin...GT500...its a 10,000 difference in price.
GT500 here is sold still under the SVT branded dealerships only...making the access to them less, and the negotiations non-existant.
I have one dealer near me that has at least 7 in inventory (they had more before)
2 are still new 2010s...5 are 2011s. List is 60,000-64,000

They also want sticker on a new 2013. There is $7,000 to play with sticker for sticker in the US and over $15,000 on a new 2012 with xplan and $2500 rebate...
All in all, when i got my 2011GT back in 2010, with the dollar almost at par, all taxes paid GST, QST, RIV fees, inspection at Crappy Tire, rental car, day off work, etc. i ended up saving $6500 Cdn.
I'm sorry, I'm going to have to call BS .... A brand new car , not titled entered into Canada and saving 17k is BS. The car had to be used ,and titled....there are many car guys that would have done this with pcars, Ferrari, lambos corvettes .... You cannot get a brand new car at a dealer in Ohio, fill out paper work, and bring to calgary .... Canada will not register that car, you will have to pay the full tax on that.
The CDN new car market would have died by now
The CDN new car market would have died by now
Do the calculations on a Boss on the US retail side, then do the CDN side, there is not a $17,000 difference even with taxes , hence, BS.
We don't even even have a 17k delta on the gt 500, which is more expensive than the Boss.
On a side note....yes there are two dealers here that have 11s and 12s gt 500s brand new sitting at retail and not moving...I really don't understand keeping so many of these cars on the lot SITTING. Have a look at this link.

I mean even in the end, saving even a grand or 2...I think thats worth the work.
but 6 or 7... i think we can all agree that that's not exactly chump change that I'd be saying isn't worth it.
If only Ford (and this could be true for all new myfordtouch gauges in the future) would have one gauge set for MPH/KM-hr...so they didn't have to produce multiple gauge clusters, and which is the only downside for having a US vehicle here. Even if it is only a minor inconvenience.

On the gt 500 , that is a different story..5k and over would be of big benefit....but again, if you wanted, or needed to trade it in....it maybe a sore spot.
It will be interesting how this will overall effect the CDN car, dealer market in the future .... With the bloody dollar at par for yrs, I'm surprised the delta isn't close between both countries by now.
Go to an auction , or better still go try and trade in your US car and see for yourself...see what they quote you on a trade or what they tell you...your not trading in a speciality car, or low production car...your trading in a regular production US mustang. You think the 6k you saved buying in the US will get you the exact same trade in value as a CDN car ?

As I've said, It's not all about the price.
It's really about what you GET for that money.
I'm attaching a quick document that I slapped together that outlines the price differences and feature differences between an V6 Premium Automatic with the PP

As you can see, the difference isn't in a few gimmick features but instead in practical ones. (Shaker, Sync, 4.2inch LCD with Track Apps and more)

A few of my personal friends have sold their US built cars to private parties in this part of the hood and got the same kind of money as similar equipped Cdn cars . I don't know who you got your info from, but i say it does not apply to all cars, especially not Mustang's...

Unless of course you got less options than the base cars here, but then you would have paid less down there anyway.
I'd like to see actual proof of 2 exact optioned out cars from both countries getting different prices with the same mileage on trade in.
