I love my Mustang... BUT ...

... I've got itch to do something else. I'm spoiled now by all the 'creature comforts' of the premium package, which is one of the reasons that I didn't get the GT when I bought this one. Too spendy. My '10 has the stone seats AND all stone door panels... and I think that looks waaaaay better than all black except the little seat colored insert in the door, so I'm really not interested in the current Mustangs.

I found out a few months back that I CAN get my big *** in a Miata. And it was fun to drive. A loaded up Miata is driving me to distraction. I'd really like to know what they're going to do with the next generation Mustang, because that was my 'plan' all along... but I'm not sure I'm disciplined enought to wait for that. Sigh. Most times when I get the 'itch', I go outside and spend a few hours washing and waxing... and that holds me awhile. But it's not working this time.

Is there some kinda meeting I can go to?

Nothing wrong with wanting something else. I plan on trading out of a mustang some day to something different. That's what I love about cars, there's so many options!

You live in Texas, where about 60% of the vehicles on the road are Trucks or SUV's, and you want to trade a moderate sized cager for an roofless (structure) mini car, hmm.

As far as I'm concerned, there just isn't another car out there in my price range that could possibly give me the satisfaction I get from my Mustang.

I've been through a lot of cars in the past 30-some years and have many regrets over cars I have let go of. I have no thought of letting this one go.

Might add another car to my corral one day though...

Have they used some soft touch stuff on the upper door panels on the '13, or is it still hard plastic? If I were to get black/charcoal seats I'd eliminate that door panel color issue (that really bothers me!).

I also notice the Ford 'build it' thingy shows Recaro cloth seats as parts of the 200A V6 Premium package... but when you move on through the steps it shows regular leather trim seats and Recaro cloth as choices, and clicking on Recaro cloth adds a $1600 leather option. So... what's the real deal in the 200A? And is the Recaro drivers seat power or manual?

I hated the new tail lights and that shiny black plastic in the back when I first saw it on the '13, but it's less offensive now. And I lilke the new hood. I may have to reconsider a little Mustang 'upgrade'. The comment about the teensy Miata and all the giant 4x4 trucks around here gave me pause... and I just came back from an errand in the Escape and realized the Mustang just looks right sitting in the garage.

The Miata IS a very cool little car. Actually, I prefer those that are a year or two older, as the big fish grill on the newer ones detract a bit. It's hard to find a small sporty 2-seat convertible that drives so well, looks so great, and is as good of a value as the Miata. The small Mazdas are fun to drive - no doubt. I sat in one before buying my Mustang - but I'm just too tall to make it work. I like the description I saw in one of the car magazines saying "you really wear the Miata - not sit in it." If only it had more leg room...if only.

Go with your heart. You're only here once.

I have owned many cars, I just sold both my 06 Mustang and my 2000 Audi TT Quattro so I can buy the new Mustang. The features and look of the 2013 sold me right away enough so that I was happen to change from two really nice cars to get the 2013 I like. This time with the 2013 I get the features I loved of both the cars I sold in one great package. Like was said for the money I can't find another car that holds a candle to the Mustang. I actually looked at a 2009 BMW 135I twin turbo Certified BMW. With 33K miles on it it still was around 30K. I told the BMW Dealer that I was going to get the new Mustang instead and because it offered so much more than the 135i. I even gave him the change to tell me why I should go for the BMW, what feature is the got to have. his answer was only "Because its a BMW". Sorry not sold enough. Not saying the Mustang is the only car on the road but because the Ford brand has always treated me the best out of GM, Toyota, Hyundai etc that I have owned. I am staying loyal to Ford!! Good luck on your decision.

Door panels didn't change on the 2013 as far as I have seen, same as 2010-2012.

Premium cars get leather seats, recaros or not. Cloth only comes on base cars, recaros or not. Recaros are a $1600 option on any of the regular Mustangs and do not get power.

man....where do I start...really?
Going from American muscle to rice rocket. That's like batting for the other team, while your still on this one.
Get that little go cart out of your head.

Miata, it screams girls car.(even though its not, which is really weird in itself)
Very unlike "a secretaries car" turned muscle car.
I don't see Shelby (Rest In Piece), shoe-horning a big block under that little hood.
And going from 8 cylinders to 4, thats like half your manhood, GONE.

You know, you can always try lowering your car, getting a big *** sun roof and even throwing in a supercharger if it feels a bit slow.

Miata

Stang

Change your mind yet.

I dont know what you should do here...but personally, I have one of each.

Mustangs are great and lots of fun!
But the miata can be just as much fun on a much cheaper scale. Maintenance is cheaper. Parts are cheaper and it is a fairly simple car to work on.
Rotors for mustangs $200~ each miata $15~
You can race a miata without having tons of money. Try that with a mustang. I love my car and I love taking it to HPDE's but I would never even dream of taking it wheel to wheel.

Check out racingjunk.com
They always have deals of cars w/ trailers, motors, and parts

Don't know what $200 Mustang rotors you are comparing to $15 miata rotors.

Even Mustang brembo rotors don't cost $200...

The wife is talking about wanting a little convertible that gets better mileage than her Tundra. Thinking about picking up a 2011 v6 stang or maybe a newish Miata. I will no doubt drive and enjoy whatever we get, but I don't think I would ever say, YEAH That's MY Miata.

That said, i hear they are amazingly fun. Make whichever decision works for you.

No offense to Miata owners, and I have heard they are fun to drive. But guys just look ridiculous driving those little cars. Females look ok in them, but they just look silly with a guy driving them .

I love driving my Mustang. it is unbelievable fun as far as I'm concerned. Or I should say...I love driving my Mustang when it doesn't lock me out of gears. lol.

The other thing I love about Mustangs is that you can mod them to be so unique. You can make your car look like no other Mustang out there. Every Miata to me looks the same.

You sure you fit..have you taken a long test drive with roof up?

I ask because i used to own a 92 mazda b2200 (**** i wish they made them again..greats little trucks)...anyways when i was in for service i would sit in the other cars (come on we all do it)...I'm only 6'1" but **** if i could barely fit in the Miata...and getting out was simply not fun at all!

As I read through all the posts of this thread, It made me smile. If you're into a Miata, then by all means buy it. You will be making the payments, so it's all about what makes you smile when you're driving. I doubt that anyone here will offer to make the payments for you, especially since this is a Mustang forum.

Me, the Mustang makes me smile. I lost a deal in the mid seventies when I had a chance to get a 65 Convertible; worked for a hippy who owned a cheap yard cutting service; he owed me money and offered the 65 as payment. My dad said no (gotta remember that in those days, the Mustang was not a collectible as they are now). Over the years I bought so many cars, but never gave the Mustang a chance. Now I have one. It's a blast to drive for the money spent. It's the V6, so I can only imagine what the folks who own the GT, Boss, or Shelby (and actually drive them) are thinking when they drive.

Again, it's your car, your money. Buy what you want, and will make you happy. I doubt you'll get much support here though. You'll need to head over to a Miata site for that.

Get the new Z4 if you want a 2 seater or a Audi TT. Everyone always forget the the TT which are good all year around if you get the Quattro. I had a 2000 Audi TT Quattro Coupe which was fun to drive. But then again none of what I just stated is a Mustang.

I have driven many miatas over the years, mostly track cars. They are great fun! However, coming from a past owner of a s2000 the two can't be compared. The s2k doesn't have alot of power, but it has alot more than the miata. It does have a bit more room, and looks 1000x's better. The shifter/tranny is the most amazing thing i have ever felt in my life. Far superior over the smaller, slower miata. IMO. Used ones can be found dirt cheap, not as cheap as a miata but well worth the xtra dough. Good luck.
