I just found a note in my new GT

I have about 400 miles on my car, and was just now fishing for something in the cupholder. I found a note from Ford, hadn't seen it before because it was curled around the bottom, hugging the sides of the holder.

It was a small slip of paper, with Ford's logo, and preprinted except for one blank line for mileage. It said that my car had been chosen at random for testing, and that 36.4 miles had been put on it.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I doubt it was abused, but I still don't like the idea of a stranger putting those first miles on my car. On the other hand, if any defects were noted, they could be fixed (or were). My car seems to be perfect so far.

I have very mixed feelings. Anyone else get this note?

Uh oh. Maybe that's why my car has been bouncing offsite and back mysteriously...what did your vehicle visibility report say?

I wouldn't be too upset about it. After all, it was test driven for quality control purposes and it must have passed. Now, if you see a note regarding a body shop repair, get upset !

Well, you knew someone else had when you saw the odometer when you first stepped in it right?

I'm not too worried, I might even consider it a good thing that the car was carefully inspected and tested, which would have picked out most issues. That said, I'm not sure if they're supposed to do that to retail orders. At the very least, you can be pretty safely assured that they did not abuse it and did nothing that would fall outside of Ford's standard break in procedure. The drivers would have handled it very professionally if they wanted to keep their jobs. Plus these people have likely driven many Mustangs in their time, so they probably know how to drive it from experience. They certainly won't be yahoos doing burnouts who can't work a manual or lug the engine.

But that said, I'd prefer it be perfect without the miles. Eh, can't have it all I guess. All I can say is that if it had 40 miles to start with, I'd find it a relief that it was Ford who tested it and that it was not people at the dealership taking turns.

Don't sweat it. We do the same thing OAC. Random vehicles are picked off the line for road test all day and night long. Just to make sure there are no issues with the vehicles.

My 2004 MC Cobra passed through the same ritual, the difference is rather than a note a certificate was provided by Ford stating the vehicle w/ vin# xxx had been inspected, tested, and was defect free.

Exactly. Half the time it's a manager or an engineer that takes it out; they do a survey and any issues such as a squeek or rattle gets taken to a specialist that finds the source and uses their findings to invoke engineering changes/improvements.

It only left and came back one time. Like the one poster said, I'm happy it was a Ford factory employee that put the miles on it, and not person(s) unknown at the dealership.

I think it is cool that they left the note. If I were you, I'd scan it and preserve it.

Not uncommon, usually that note is on the side window when it arrives at the dealership.

I think it's pretty cool. A nice little piece of history that you'll treasure in 30 years...The testing wouldn't phase me one bit.

It is SUPPOSED to be on the side window.
The real question here should be why was it not there?
Anyway, don't worry about the testing.

Does anyone know if this would contribute to delays or being sent offsite?

They did the same with mine, probably didn't do anything to the car that I wouldn't/will do to it.

Too bad they missed the loose bracket in the back! Lol. Maybe too busy listening to the motor
