Unhappy I can't believe this! My new car...

OK, so I cut out of work early to pickup the Grabber Blue 2012. The dealer did a beautiful job prepping it. It was clean, shiny, and read to go. When I was looking it over I noticed that some knuckle head at the factory put a big scratch in the door jam when installing the detent piece and just let it go that way.

No big deal. The dealer offered to have their body shop take care of it, but I accepted a tube of touch up paint instead because I was anxious to get out of there with the new car.

On the drive home I had the windows down and more than once noticed a burning smell, kind of like oil. I figured it was just the manufacturing oils on the exhaust burning off and didn't think anything of it.

So I get it home and immediately jack up the back to put the Hushpowers on. Passenger side is a piece of cake but the drivers side didn't want to line up right. While I'm working on getting the tips lined up, I look forward and notice that the driver's side resonator is bashed in.

** EDIT: I've been informed the next two pics are normal. Sorry for thinking this was a problem. **

Now I'm starting to wonder if maybe it was damaged in transit so I start looking around underneath to see if anything else and messed up, and that's when I notice it's leaking trans fluid!

I'm not even angry about this. Just so, so disappointed. I traded my '05 that was a super reliable car and also traded an equally reliable 2005 F-150 work truck. At least the weather is going to be nice so I can take the motorcycle into work the rest of the week. Anyway, just had to vent. Hopefully everything gets taken care of.

The resonator isn't bashed in, it comes from Ford flattened for some reason.

Transmission is a mystery, I thought they put them up on the rack during dealer prep to check for things like that.

Those resonators are all flattened like that. My theory is that it's to prevent rotation of whatever's inside there.

The tranny fluid leak is a big uh-oh by the dealer. They need to give you something free for that screw-up. Unconscionable.

BTW, we need external photos of your car.

You wanna hear the list of **** I have going with my new '11?

Drivers side windshield seal is coming up, needs to be re-glued.

Scratches all over the radio display, very bad.

pass. front wheel has super paint defect on it. Needs replacing. (Brembo wheels)

Scratch on the dash panel where the heat ***** are.

Dirt under the paint on the front bumper, everyone says to ignore it.

Big paint defect on the roof. Ford is hopefully going to buy the car back.

Rear spring/suspension squeek when the car hits low speed bumps, very annoying. Also heard when getting in and out.

Engine knock is starting at warm idle. No fix for it yet.

The QC on this car was ****! I am in talks with Ford about doing a buy back because the defect on the roof is bad enough that they would have to paint the whole roof, most of the doors and rear quarter panels to get it right. Yellow Blaze for the loss. And no local body shops want to do it when they heard what color it was. So I may get a new '12 courtesy of Ford. Black, silver or grabber blue this time.

Thanks for the info about the exhaust. Surprising they only do that to the one side though.

Sorry to hear about those problems ZX. Hope they get it resolved for you.

Yeah, I'll post up some pics when it's daytime again. GB is a gorgeous color.

Can you tell where the trans is leaking from? Is it from the pan, or somewhere else?

Ford has really outstanding vehicles in their line up now, but they are going to screw it up big time by not paying attention to details and quality
in ALL areas instead of trying to save a few pennies.

The other side resonator is flattened on top....

I would call the dealer and have them tow the car back and fix that tranny issue...

Oh, man that is UNACCEPTABLE! I would be on the salesman's desk asking how the f**k they let a NEW car out the door with these problems... They have a detailed delivery checklist that clearly was NOT followed.

In fact, I'd have the sales manager and the manager who is responsible for prepping new cars there to answer the same question....

As big a hassle it is for you, I'd give them the keys to the car and tell them to FIX IT, and provide me transportation in the mean time, and demand the District Manager's name and phone number in case the problem is not fixed to your satisfaction.

The only way crappy workmanship continues is if we allow it... IMHO, that is...

That looks like a pretty serious leak from the trans, not just a drop or two. I'd be demanding to see how low on fluid it was, and what if any damage may have been done to the internals of it.

I know, I know. By the time I had the mufflers on if was almost dark and a picture with the flash in my garage isn't going to do it justice. I'll get one outside tomorrow and also update on the progress with the dealer.

That is a big bummer. It's brand new and the dealer will have to make it right. Warranty is a beautiful thing.

They have to give you a free loaner at least!

Bummer!

As everyone has said, all of the resonators are flattened like that, most likely for some fine sound tuning.

Definitely have them tow the car back to fix the transmission leak. Someone must have missed something, or perhaps was very careless when they filled it up.

The mid X pipe on my V-6 has on one side (can't remember which side) a flat place from the factory, Which is normal for some reason. But, your transmission leaking is really bad and uncalled for

The resonator is normal (although nobody seems to know why they did it), I would definitely go back to the dealer for the tranny leak though.

My '11 GT has the dinged resonator as well, no oil leak though - thank goodness...

I prefer riding my bike too... '11 R1200GS = 42MPG
