I heard a rumor... supposedly from friends of a friend that work in the SVT program that the Hurricane is back for the Mustang... in order to compete with the LS motors.

Can anyone confirm or deny? .... well, I'm sure lots can deny... can anyone confirm?

I HIGHLY doubt the BOSS (formally hurricane) will go in the Mustang anytime soon.
Its a VERY LARGE/HEAVY engine

I guess in the future it COULD be used... but there are other lighter powerful alternatives that could be utilized before going with the BOSS

After I made that post, I read the e-mail that was sent to me and saw that they mentioned specifically the trucks, and didn't say anything about it going into the Mustang.

I guess that's why they call this News and RUMORS. Oh well.... we'll see I suppose.

Which would make sense with SVT... as the Raptor project would be using the 6.2 BOSS engine

It just doesn't make good business sense to bring out a new engine or spend a lot of time & money upgrading the 4.6L when the GDI V8 is right around the corner.
If we are lucky, we will see a 15hp increase in the 2010 Mustang GT. Maybe Ford will upgrade the 4.6L for an SE Mustang or use the 5.4L.

Agreed. If we see a Boss/Hurricane engine in the Mustang it's almost certainly going to be a special edition/high end model like a GT500, Boss, or Mach-1. Although, the Boss isn't bad in terms of weight compared to the 5.4L and 6.8L engines it's replacing.

I guess you haven't been following the 2010 Mustang threads much lately. The 2010 GT will have a 5.0L 400HP engine according to several inside sources who have never been wrong yet. That is a bit more than a 15hp bump...

As a Raptor motor, yes, a Boss does make sense, but as a Stang motor, no, not really given near future realities of CAFE, EPA and OPEC. The GT500 already has an (over?)powerful, heavy boat anchor of a motor --pretty decent straight line speed but at the expensive of about every other dynamic measure.

For the Stang, I could foresee maybe the 4.6 3V sticking around as the cost leader GT motor with the all AL 5.0 being maybe a neo Boss 302 motor and a twin turbo version of that being a the new GT500 motor.

Because such a SE Mustang would have to sell for $50K. The GT engine was very expensive to manufacture.

The H/boss should be more compact than the massive mods due to the shorter stroke, an aluminum Boss would be a lot lighter than the iron 5.4. So for the GT500 I don't see why not, we know it fits in the Mustang anyways.

Although nothing is known about the future of the GT500 powerplant so until we do it's pretty pointless, but I don't see why Ford would spend so much time and money on the Boss to only use them in trucks.

Gas mileage has nothing to do with it either like some have said, it's not like the mods are fuel stingy, just look at what GM gets out of much larger pushrod LS engines.

GoFast has been saying for a while that the Mustang GT in 2010/2011 with 5.0 won't be 400hp, but moreso 350-360.

Four's got some sources that I'd trust.
He'll tell you if its rumour or fact, and he's pretty **** sure... and I believe it (for one reason or another)

Interesting aside......Fourcam doesn't dispute the existence of a ~360hp version of the 5.0L, he just doesn't tag it as a Mustang application piece. IIRC he has stated that version s of the new V8 producing around 360hp are currently undergoing testing for applications in trucks.

Well if they do they are keeping quiet on it as I haven't heard anything, and I've asked, but then we do know Ford recently dropped the hammer on leaks, so I doubt we'll know anything until it gets close to production..

I'm sure Four checks his sources(being multiple) behind putting his neck on the line.

It does make sense to have the 360hp with more torque tuned 5.0 in the F150,
and with the 4.6 going bye bye in the future...it only makes even more sense to have multiple variations/tunes for the motor to put it in more applications.

I can also see that engine going in the GRWD 4 door sedan if its a Crown Vic replacement.
No need to keep the 4.6 around when you have a more efficient v8 with more power and spread it across to keep the costs down.

Maybe what changed is the Windsor engine plant is getting ready right now for 5.0L production.
