I searched but didn't find this information. I went to the dealership today to get an oil change but more to see if there were any recalls before I did any modifications. My 2014 5.0 with Track Package is only at 2700 miles and it was suggested I wait until 5000 miles because it was going to be $90. They quoted me $35 at first but I wanted to make sure they were using the right oil. After me asking about what type of oil it went up to $90. ... And that got me thinking. How often do you do your oil change? And if you don't do your own, how much is it for you?
BtW, they said I had no recalls.

Every 5K. It's easy to remember, and overall the months work out right. It's what the manual calls for, and it's either Motorcraft Synth Blend or Mobil1.

So far, no complaints from Awesome. I hope I'm doing well with her on that.

Previous histories...My 87 Mark VII was every 3K on the 302, which was harder to remember, but I did my best, and my 95 Mark VIII and 97 HoopTBird V6 were at 5K with synth, and neither had any oil related issues, both went 160K+ easily.

Now, mine's the 4.6, so take that into consideration. But for the 5.0 even, brand new, I might be inclined to on the first 2500 swap the oil out, then again at 5000, then 5000 after that forever. Just to be sure the break in gunk is all cleaned out and then she's on schedule.

But that'd be me.

Hey Frosty, check out the sticky in this section for the oil change for our cars. It may answer some of your questions.

Thanks, Sonic. I saw a "oil change - how too" but I only saw one post about how often and not much on how much. I'll re-read it again but just wanted to see if I was crazy or not for taking it in early for its first one.

I changed my factory fill oil @3,500 miles and had a used oil analysis (UOA) performed, here's the report:

Roughly every 8k, buy bulk oil, about 150 bucks worth of Castrol or M1 depending on the sale at NAPA. Ends up being about 50 an oil change without filter.

Interesting. To me that confirms why many of us change out the oil within the first 1000 miles on a new engine before cycling into the owners manual recommended intervals.

Service guy thought I was odd when I brought mine in for first change at 550, saying it didn't need it that soon. I smiled and said I hear ya, but do it anyway. Glad I did.

Oil changes at 550, 5500, and 10500... next up at 15500. End up paying around $110 or so, due to Track Package needing extra and 5w/50.

I have a friend who has a his own shop and has maintained our cars for years. He specializes in Hondas and Acuras, but has maintained anything I've owned. He uses top quality oil and uses genuine Ford filters on my Mustang. I help him with his computer system and he changes my oil for free. I have my oil and filter changed every 3,500 miles. The first car he maintained for us (an '88 Accord) had 300K miles on it and was still going strong when we donated it to charity.

I change mine between 6500 and 7000 and use Mobil One oil. Average price is right around $60.

Ah! So the Track package is what is causing the increase in cost. The track package requires 5w/50 and that type of synthetic oil costs more? I didn't think the TP changed anything inside the engine. Am I wrong?

The assumption is you bought a TP to drive at the... track. With perhaps a couple of hours of driving while hanging at high rpm's at a track (that the average driver doesn't come close to encountering), the higher viscosity helps reduce oil breakdown from the higher temperatures. That's all.

I buy Mobil1 oil and filter at Walmart or any local shop when it's on sale. Bring it to my dealership every 6000k and they charge me $11 to change the oil and filter. They even empty my catch can. Used to do it myself but lowered now and got tired of hauling used oil in the car to dispose of at the local auto parts store. Usually ended up with 10 milk jugs between the wife's car and mine before I finally got tired of looking at it and brought it somewhere. Her new KIA has free lifetime oil changes tied into the lease.

The Track Pack also has the Boss Oil Cooler, so it takes 8.5 quarts instead of 8. You don't *have* to use 5w50 according to most folks, unless you are driving it hard at the track - but I put 5w50 in anyway so the service record is pristine to the 'recommendations'. And I don't live anywhere that has super cold temperatures.

Im at just over 7k miles on the original oil. The system check on the car says I still have 34% oil life left. I figure, if I needed to change the oil at 500/1000/3000/5000 miles, the manual or car would have told me to do so. I choose to trust the engineers (since I work in engineering that is a godd thing lol).

My first oil change will be free from the dealer. After that it will be about 45 dollars for a change an tire rotation.

I was told my Ford that you not only have to use 5W50 but it has to meet Fords -B or _ C spec. Most oils that are 5W50 do not? Im confused as I still only have `1800 miles on my 2014 so I have been trying to find the best oil.

I use full synthetic on the GT. I think my first oil change ran me around $90.00, should be a bit cheaper next time around as I bought the Ford Racing filter (higher flow, better filtration) myself and plan on having them use that when they do the change so I won't be charged for a standard filter this time around.

My first change was done early, around 5k km (3k miles?). After that, I'm waiting for whenever that little oil life thing tells me to go in.
