How long are you keeping your NEW mustang?
#41
I love my 5.0, but find myself considering a 4 door something. My son is about to turn 12 and I can't imagine he's going to be comfortable long in the back of my mustang. But, I'm still sorting it out and am not sure what i will do. Obviously the economy, fuel prices and who knows what will be factors.

All you guys saying you're going to keep it for 7+ years/forever really aren't considering the electronics in these things - they will be severely outdated in just a couple years and I guarantee you Ford will stop offering firmware updates to get you to buy a new car. They aren't built to last like they used to be. I'd say the SN95s were the last of that kind of simple car that could last forever, MAYbe the 05-09s, but the 10+...I just don't see it, especially working in the tech industry.

I can attest to the short lived car life. I had a Kia hatchback for almost 5 years, traded for an 08 Z4 Bimmer, traded that 7 months later for a C300 Benz, then just got this after just over a year. I do plan on keeping this car for a very long time. I got the 6/75K from Ford so I'm keeping it until at least that runs out. I'm teaching my teenage sons how to drive in my 13' so it's gonna be hard to let go of those memories.
My son was my co-pilot and spotter when I had my '86 -- he now has my 93 LX notchback and i still have a ton of parts at my house for race prep. so I doubt I will ever be without a Mustang.
I feel for you when and if you decide to let her go

I really dont think electronics are going to be a issue- PITA expenses like dead batteries in the TPMS costing a few hundred to change, stuff like that, but I'd predict the aftermarket will pick up any slack out there- autozone/etc sell ECMs for most cars already- i'd expect as time rolls on they will have generics that they flash right at the store.
long term worries to me are plastic intakes and such- good stuff, but I still can hardly see it exposed to oil/gas/heat for 2-3-4 decades unscathed- know what i mean? plastic crown vic manifolds are almost considered a service item...
I plan on driving my 06 (picked up 12/17/05) till it wont go no more, got a identical undriven 09 waiting in the garage for that day, to start over with...absolutely love these cars. if theyre all gone tomorrow, will still be thankful for the past 6 yrs in the 06, having my 'dream car' for even that long has been awesome. with any luck, down the road I'll die a old man with a well worn 06, and a still undriven 09 to leave for someone else to enjoy

Randy, I hear you and I absolutely recognize the wisdom in what you are saying. I will be at least a year or so sorting things out.

Kids or not.. The wife gets the family car.. I travel to work by myself and so having a Mustang is the only car I want.. If I do get another it will be another Mustang. The funny thing is even though we have a 4 door the Mustang gets used more even when the wife and son want to go out We always take the Mustang. Of course if I am not going where they are its the Fiesta. No one drives my Mustang.

I got the wife a 2012 Explorer to take care of the "family" need. The 2013 Mustang is my weekend cruiser / car show / drag strip play toy. Not sure if or when I'll get another stang to replace her. I usually get a wild hair to change around the 2 - 3 year mark

I've had the cobra over 2 years so far and I'm thinking already about letting her go. It just sits in the garage and I'm not planning on any more mods for it. Thinking seriously about building another notch 5.0.

I plan to keep the 2011 until I wake up one morning and the itch drives me to the dealer for a new one (Mustang). So far, no itch. I'll never buy a new model change (such as the 2015), as there are always a few bugs that get worked out the following year.
So for now, maybe the 2015. Until then, I'm diving my 2011 daily, with a big smile on the face.

Only the early 3.7's. I bought a late 2011, so the noise issue did not apply to me.
I do my homework before I buy, and never buy new. Since the only issue of the 2011 was the noisy 3.7 (I have an automatic, so no issues with the standard transmission), I went forward with the purchase.
I may buy a 2015, but it wont be new, nor will I be standing in line to get the first ones off the truck. Or, I'll be buying one of the many garage queens I read about here as they buy the 2015...
