How long till you get your rebate?
Did you cut the bar code off your bumper and mail it in along with the form? Hehe.
Yes rebates are taken off the sale price when you buy the car. You aren't going to be receiving any money in the mail. Sorry for the bad news.

The only time I ever got any cash back on a new car deal was when I traded a truck in on a new Mustang and only applied half of my equity to the down payment and took the rest back. And it was like pulling teeth to get my stinkin' check out of the dealer.
If the rebate was available at the time of purchase, it should have been taken off then. Just look at your paperwork.
In my case I received my $750 coupon in the mail 2 days after taking delivery of the car. But my purchase date was within the date range on the coupon. So the Ford dealer submitted the coupon and some paperwork to Ford. 1 week later I had a check.

Ford allows you to choose the disbursement method for your rebate.
The vast majority of customers have it deducted from the selling price at the time of purchase (technically it's considered 'cash down' as Christie pointed out). As the dealership "gives" you the rebate upfront, it's the dealership that waits to be reimbursed by Ford later.
Very few customers check the other box on the form that directs Ford to mail the rebate to them later (thus paying more for the car upfront in the loan). Some customers do this if the payment is low enough and they want some cash back from Ford a month or two down the road. And worth repeating, the rebate comes from Ford - not the dealership.
