After trading the Prius in on my V6 Mustang, I have learned a few things. Mileage games suck. One quick start will destroy any gains. Love what you have and drive sensibly and she will always get you home.

 

I agree that there may be modifications or alterations that would improve fuel economy, but the most cost effective way to improve fuel economy is your right foot.

Most people that get Superchargers report improved economy when they are cruising, and making sure you have the optimal rear gear for your driving type and style helps too.

I don't think you would want to install low rolling resistance tires, nor run higher than normal pressure just to squeak out a 1-2% gain at the cost of handling and braking performance either.

The best methods may not be fun or the safest, but they are tried and true. Soft application of the throttle in the city during accceleration, slower highway speeds, and drafting if the opportunity presents.

 

How are you tracking your mileage? I use the app Fuel Log on Android to track my fill ups on both my cars. It's free and pretty accurate. My daily commute is 18 miles round trip about 50/50 city and highway. My last 4 tanks I had averaged 18.95, 18.88, 19.27, and 17.75. Not bad considering its all on a 91 octane performance tune and I use 92 or 93 at the pump.

Now don't get me wrong, I usually could care less about mileage considering I'm lucky to get 11-12mpgs with my Jeep, but if I notice a change or increase in mileage, I'll remember what I did to try and make it a habit. When I first started tracking it, I averaged 14-16 on the 5.0, changing shifting behaviors while dd'ing my car saves money that I can then spend on "necessary" mods later.

You will probably increase your mpg more by changing your driving style.

I think the gains would be small with minimal cost add ons.

 

I have 3.73 so I shift 1-3 then 3-5 on normal accel. I got 24.5 over 190 miles all highway not too long ago

its cool how people bash for this simple goal. some care about mpg and some don't, that is a big factor and some base a decision on mpg ratings.

my goal is not to spend money to get better mpg, but to spend money on parts that ill do anyways and was just wondering if those mods will in fact, or might increase little mpg.

Once again, MPGs is a legit topic. If you don't think it's worth considering, cool, but it doesn't mean you have to rip people for it. I don't get why that's so hard to understand. The only people I rip are people that are a-holes first.

How are you getting 18mpg IN THE CITY? That's better than my V6 minivan. LOL. At best, I average 14mpg. That's with shifting at 3-4k rpm max. Mileage on our cars suck, but oh so worth it

EXACTLY... same as me. Usually, 12-13...at BEST 14mpg... I want to know how that dude is getting 18mpg. Until then, I call B.S.

I know the best I got was around 15 in city and 25.7 on highway and that's granny driving and shifting at 3

 

It really has to deal with driving habits, and general location. For me driving in the city, i get roughly 18/19. Slow to accelerate, shifting from first to fourth. On the highway ill get between 26-28, but thats if i have to commute and try to save on gas. Keeping the car clean, without any unnecessary weight within the car. Also having the proper amount of air in the tires makes a difference.

I drive 80% city and 20% highway.
