For me it all comes down to what is the better mounting point? Nobody seems to know the answer. I am leaning towards getting the redlines due to the ease of installation but I am afraid of bending the hood due to all that pressure being put at that one spot in the middle. If I get the redlines it will be because I dont want to mess with the hood hinges.

 

Lots and lots and lots and lots of folks running redlines and MRTs with zero issues. I think that should be enough for you to sleep easy.

 

The hood is stronger than the struts at that point. The mount is placed on the hood support structure, what could be stronger?

Thousands upon thousands have been installed and no hood has failed because of the placement of the strut mount.

 

OK, OK, ya'll have just cost me more money. Guess I'll be buying some Redlines for the Wifey's car now.


As far as stress on the hood. I would think the prop would cause more stress since it holds the hood at it's outer side point, with the weight on the opposite side causing the hood to slightly twist. Just a thought.

 

I just put Redline's on my 14' GT and they were super easy, no drill and look and function perfect. Down with all prop rods!!

 

I plan on getting them and my car is supposed to be here by the end of the month...but....since there is so much dang snow piled up around here, it will be till May before I could drive it anyway, so I may as well hold off on those and the GT500 mufflers until closer to that time!!

 

I had my dealer install my GT 500's before I even picked the car up. We finally had a nice day Saturday so I got to back her out and listen to her rumble while I put the Redline's on. Come on Spring!

 

And this would be important to those that choose to keep their "sound tube", as the hood struts that use the additional bracket that is used to mount the bottom part of the strut causes it to bulge the hood when it's closed, as the strut body cylinder rests on the sound tube baffle bolts that also mount in this area.

 

Would it be safe to put these on a fiberglass hood

 

Given the fact that there's no stress at all on the hood, contrary to what others are stating on here, I see no issue.

 

The stress that folks are talking about is from the force needed to compress the struts when beginning to lower the hood...and not stress from the struts holding the hood up/open.

Still - the folks that design and manufacture the struts have gotten it right, as nobody has had any problems.

You need to check around. I'm pretty sure when i bought my MRT hood struts over 3 years ago their web site said "not for fiberglass hoods". Just saying.......

 

OP...I had a Roush with their struts and now I have another Mustang and installed the Redlines...the Roush were good, but the Redlines are better. Very easy to install and you'll be glad you did it.

The sound tube is relocated as per the instructions included in the MRT's. Not a big deal plus I like how the MRT's tuck closer to the rear of the engine compartment....I removed the hood prop rod in front for ease of maintenance and cleaning, don't want one on each side now.....

 

This will be my first mod. Recommended place to order the Redline?

 

I liked the simplicity of the Redline units. It was super easy to install, had it done in 15 minutes. I ordered mine from Late Model Restorations.
