Question Having trouble deciding which Exhaust to get

Sigh, so many choices....

Basically, I want something with no drone. I want a deep rumble, like a muscle car. I was very intrigued by the stock GT500 mufflers but they won't ship until 11-19-10. They sound "ok", but in the clip when the car takes off, that's the sound I want! That deep, mean rumble. However, I don't want it too loud either. Just a bit more than stock to fit the 400hp frame. So others can hear it when needed, but not agonizing when I drive it (I use it as a DD and too loud would drive me insane). Here's the clip I was talking about.

Most of the videos I listened on youtube, websites etc. on Borla, Flowmaster, Corsa etc. Sound raspy. Maybe a bit rice in my opinion. You can only judge so much based on videos and sound output but I'm so confused.

I don't want to spend more than $400-$500 for axleback. I don't want any drone. I want some nice 4" tips. I like the way the Bassani sits with the tips, but I read that people are reporting major drone. I listened to the Roush as well, and I wasn't that impressed. I don't like the fact the tips stick out a lot further than the diffuser either.

Any advice on which system to pick that can come close to my wishes?

Thanks in advance.

Im in the same boat here. I am leaning towards the Roush axle backs but I do like the sound of the stock GT 500's. I am just not sure where to buy to get the best price.

Same here... the exhaust is my next mod on the list. I am looking for something more aggressive, louder and muscle-car like than the stock setup. Not sure if I want to go the route with a full catback system or just an axle back.

While getting my other mods installed by Steeda in South Florida, I had a chance to listen to their axle back system installed on a 5.0... I was majorly impressed with the sound.

Still debating and trying to make a choice... I just wish there would be a place to go to listen to each individual exhaust in person. Even at car shows, not many 5.0 with modified exhaust so far.

The GT-500 Mufflers are the best axle backs available for the 2011 Mustang in my opinion.

Here is why:

First they are an OEM product, quality and fit are PERFECT. These Mufflers bolt in easily the first time with now sacrifice or modifications need.

Second because they are an OEM muffler they have ZERO drone, NOTHING, none.

The tone is aggressive and sounds like a Mustang. Many have complained that with aftermarket exhaust the new Coyote sounds "off, different, or funny" due to its new firing order. I can assure you the GT-500 Mufflers sound like a Mustang, nice and throaty.

These Mufflers are noticeably louder cruising around town and aggressive at WOT. However at idle they are marginally louder and not obnoxious.

The 4" tips are a very nice improvment over the stock tips and fill the fascia very very nicely.

GT500 mufflers are defintely going to be the ones to get for the driver that wants a more aggressive tone without being too much louder.

I love my Ford Racing Sports but **** do I feel bad for I neighbors when I fire the thing up in the morning.

I've got Corsa Extreme's with their X-pipe. With just the mufflers, it was raspy, but with the X-pipe, it cleans the sound up. Either way, there is NO drone at all. Plus, the tips on the Corsa are my favorite for the 5.0 right now.

Just a 4" single wall slash cut tip. Nothing fancy, but they fill out the rear bumper nicely.

Love my Roush and I`m an old geezer. Definately loud but quiet at idle and my cruise speed of 2000 RPM, 110K (68MPH). Start-up and any acceleration is loud. Make sure I`m at 2000 RPM and 6th gear when I pass any cops. LOL. Haven't noticed any drone yet. Cost $380 US. Sounds like the OP might be more interested in the Shelbies though. I had FRPP mufflers on my `06. They were nice. Just a little louder than stock but nothing like these.

Cheers.

I did a lot of research before selecting my exhaust. I ended up with Borla S Type axle-backs and when first installed, I thought it was too loud, but I've really come to enjoy. You can control the volume by feathering the pedal when needed. Based on my described wishes, the shop I used said to go with the full Borla Touring or just the S Type axle-backs. They were able to get any brand I wanted but they prefer installing Borla's because of the quality. They've never had one come back.
When it came down off the hoist the mechanic fired it up and said "now it sounds like a Mustang".
