Has anyone kept the stock235/50/18 on front and went 255/45/18 in rear

my wife was driving her 2012 convertible last fall and somebody left something in some leaves at the side of the road.

When she turned the corner, the sidewall of the 235/50/18 got sliced open on the rear.

I want to change both rears to 255/45/18 and leave the originals on the front

anyone do that?

ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON WHAT BRAND TO GET?

the car only has 25,000 km's on it.

I went from the factory 235/50-18 to 255/45-18. I feel the 255 is too wide for our 8 inch wide wheels and feel 'tire roll' on very hard turns. I will be going back to 235/50-18 when these tires wear out in a few years .

You should be OK with 255/45-18 on the rear. Its the overall diameter you have to keep close to each other. There isn't much difference between the 235/50 and the 255/45 tires I'm not a tire expert and could be wrong .

I agree with David. 255s really should be on a 9" wheel. Yes, you could get away with it but performance probably wouldn't be improved (thanks to sidewall flex), you'd probably find more rapid fire wear and you'd lose the ability to rotate the tires.

Could this be an excuse to upgrade all four wheels and tires? I sure think so.
