So will Ford up the power of the GT500. It is 200hp over the GT now. Will it stay that way? 600hp? What do you guys think?

 

Seems like the best business decision would be to mirror any hp bump in the GT.
2010 will most likely be a small bump in hp. The 2011 5.0 "should" be 400hp, which "should" push the GT500 to 600hp. I could see a future issue if the 5.0 was 400hp and the GT500 remained at 500hp.
Given the rumored weight reduction in the GT. Some GT500 buyers would find it hard to justify
the extra coin for only 100hp more etc.
Hopfully the 5.0 is 400hp and the GT500 mirrors that increase to 600hp.
Whatever happens, Ford seems ready to go head to head with Chevy and Dodge....bring it on!
Makes me feel like Im in highschool again.........

I voted 540 like the KR, but I'm not sure it will go that high. I do think it will be higher than 500 though.

 

Boy wouldn't that PISSOFF a lot of $80,000+ KR owners?

doubt it will ever go much above what it is now. will not be cost efficient to produce and the average guy will not be able to afford the insurance.

i rather see it stay where it is and still be able to afford one and mod it on my own.

From what I've seen, not a lot of "average" guys own GT500s or KRs.

I'm going with 600, the F5, Challenger, and '11 GT are uncomfortably close to GT500 performance territory for them to just slap on a meger 540hp, besides the Eaton TVS blower should be cheaper to produce when Ford puts a bigger order in for them.

Hum, I am an honorably discharged Veteran, I own my own business, and work hard at it every day. I have been piecing together hod rod Fords since I was 14.

Of my two friends who have GT500's one is a Coke vending machine repairman, and the other is an unemployed Ford Mechanic.


Obviously you and I have different definitions of average.

 

"From what I've seen" being the obvious qualifier there.

The only person I know who owns a GT500 is a middle-aged rich boy with way too many expensive four-wheeled go-fast toys with not nearly enough miles on them sitting under lights in an oversized Garage-Mahal that's three times larger and ten times nicer than my house. And he won't be making payments on them either.

So yeah, in my experience, nowhere close to "average."

I think we can safely say that the actual average personal income in North America (about $27,000 a year) does not permit the ownership of a $60,000 car.

I'm not saying this applies to you but there's a distinct difference between HAVING one and OWNING one. The beauty of today's modern credit driven economy is that no one actually owns things anymore. It's just assumed that one day they might. Because of this, it's possible to live far beyond your actual means. I could go out and finance a GT500 tomorrow, but that doesn't mean I can afford one.

This presumed infinite amount of credit is the root of the current financial crisis...well that and multi-billion dollar "wars", but that's a whoooole other forum topic that I am not getting into.

 

I wouldn't mind Ford keeping the same HP rating and losing about 200 lbs.

 

ice hawk, valid somewhat and i will agree but the trend that is going and the idea of more an more power will push the gt500 further out of the hands of even most of the owners that have them now.

this car is headed down the direction of the z06, price wise, and has alienated the enthusiast that previously had an 03-04 cobra and were chomping at the bit for a vehicle they quickly discovered was out of their reach. go over to svtp and you may be surprised at the amount of average people.
