GT500 Muffler after a few months
Better? Depends on what you consider better.
They will get a little more mellow as some soot builds up in them, as most mufflers do.
This is also accentuated by the fact that you get more used to the way they sound.

They are always going to sound pretty tame compared to a lot of other exhausts if that is what you mean. However like was stated earlier cutting out the resonators will help a little bit and is only about $50-$75 at any good exhaust shop.
I loved my gt500s after initial install. Won't lie tho, they started sounding pretty tame. Left me wanting more and more. Upgrades to borla s catbacks, and for almost 2.5 yrs it's never left me wanting more.
The quality of the GT500 sound has left me not really pining for much more quantity, on a DD 5.0....
I describe it as a mix of Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Bullitt soundtrack on slightly lower volume, on an Mt car like mine.

These mufflers along with open Boss side pipes + Track Key = perfection to my ears. Heard a Dyno pull of a guy with an 'aggressive' exhaust w/o resonators and it was crazy *** hurt your ears loud. Dunno if I could live with that on a DD, just a weekend toy.
Thanks!
My GT500s have been on for about 3,000 miles, and I just loooove cold starts.
I'm planning on adding the Boss quad side pipes in the near future (debating whether the restrictor plates will stay in or out).

Perhaps when the weather warms up and you open your windows, it may bring back the more aggressive sound you're missing now with your windows rolled up. A big PLUS 1 on the resonator delete. I have a 2011 GT with GT500 mufflers and when I did resonator delete the sound was much better...and no drone (I have YouTube videos of mine on here on TMS). I, personally, love the sound. If you want really loud, you'll need to switch to a more expensive option like Borla or Roush, etc.
Put AR 1 7/8" headers, 2 7/8" collectors, H-pipe and the sound on mine is very nice with stock GT500 mufflers. If I change them, it will probably be Corsa's. I've heard them in person, and nothing compares (with an aftermarket exhaust). Roush is too loud/obnoxious/raspy, borla sounds like every other car on the road--not interested in blending in. Besides, I'm not thrilled with their exhaust note anyway.
Just a tip, IF you're interested in at least hearing other exhausts, definitely before buying, go to the socal stangers thread and ask sky hye if you guys can meet up to hear his exhaust. Hehas the borla-s type. Sounds waaaaaaay better than the gt500. BUT is also much more expensive, and i dont know how it is for daily driving. But he should be able to give you a lot of info on them
