Gouges in tire sidewall (from factory)

Has anyone noticed any gouges in the sidewalls of their factory tires? I found marks on two of my tires, on the inside of the tire. They are oriented towards the center of the wheel, not around the circumference (so definitely not caused while the tire was moving).

Two tires have these, each tire has a set of two gouges/cuts right next to each other of equal length and size. The marks on both tires are identical, so it seems this is from the factory and not due to anything after I bought the car.

Just curious if anyone else has these. They are deep enough to cause concern, but not so deep as to be a blatant safety risk. Dealer won't warranty tires (won't even submit to Ford, says he knows they'll deny it).

I'll try and get pics up tomorrow. On each tire they are about half way up the sidewall, in the same exact spot.

Hey Joey. Can you post a picture. I am not understanding what you are saying about the gouges?

I bet it is from mounting at the factory. Because it's on the sidewall, about the only thing you can really do if you want to be safe is to replace them.

Joey, Have you talked with the dealer? I have had some thign like this before that they covered under the milage warranty. Out of know where they developed. I had them warranty it on the mileage warranty. Good Luck

They will not warranty them. They said it's just cosmetic and that while it likely happened during assembly they didn't think Ford was going to do it.

My tire guy also said it was mostly just cosmetic, so I'm not pursuing the issue any further.

Read somewhere that GM had a TSB... Or maybe just a internal Memo that the Camaro's with Pirelli tires were not even to be moved when the temp was below 30 degrees. Apparently they crack between the treads at low temperatures. I seem to recall it saying if it was not caught before the owner took possession then there would be no assistance for replacement either. I do not think this is what has happened to you. And I have driven my Pirelli's in low temps with no issues. But sounds like others have had issues too.

It may be just (mostly) cosmetic... but it ain't right. And it's on TWO of them. I think I'd make them have Ford tell me they weren't going to do it... not just get away with 'they don't think' they will. Sounds like a dealer that doesn't want to be bothered to me. Which, sadly, isn't rare anymore.

I can’t say for sure what could have caused this, but let me know if you’d like to get this escalated, Joeywhat.
