Getting my windows tinted. What % to go with?

Jokestars, I'd guess the Glass Roof is about 35-40%. Rick, those windows are DARK! The CA LEOs would have a field day. Whenever I get a new car it will be 50% windshield/front sides and 15 or 5% on the rest.

Our 2010 Camaro (white), and 2011 Mustang (White) Have that same tint. Our 2009 G8 GXP (black), and 2010 SHO (black) have double 5% on the sides and rears and 35% on the windshield. They look spraypainted on

0 times. I have 5% on my F-150 too. But when I drive, unless it's raining, I usually have all the windows down completely as well and don't give em a reason to pull me over.
But neither are my daily driver either. I def wouldn't have 5% on that. lol
Back when I had my 99 GT with 5% all around, I drove it everywhere for 3 years, no issues. Moved to Westerville, had 3 tickets within 3 months for the windows so stripped it off the sides after third $80 ticket.
But othern then that, never had any issues with tint.

Not to be a kill-joy here, but I nearly took out a pedestrian one night taking a left turn onto a dark street. After that incident I realized why those tint laws are in effect. The other big downside to really dark tint is when other drivers can’t see which direction you are looking, and hand motions can not be seen by pedestrians or other drivers. It can be a handicap in certain driving conditions. Backing up in a dark parking lot with limo tint is just plain risky. (been there done that)

I prefer 5% on the back and quarters with 15% on the doors. I'm not sure what the legal limit is here in Ontario but when crossing the border or if I'm ever pulled over by the police, I lower the windows completely...and if it is at night I turn on the interior lights too. This sort of shows you have nothing to hide and it also lightens up the interior and draws their eyes away from the tint.
I'm genuinely surprised that so many on here have mentioned tinting the front windshield, it's not something I would ever do. I can understand on a car that is 90% show car and 10% driver but for any car that is actually driven regularly, it seems an odd choice. I prefer to have the best view possible of the road in front of me and even the best tint will have slight defractions and distortion. I also find that tinted glass gets dirtier, faster (or at least doesn't hide the dust as well.)

I have my windshield strip done, and only recently discovered windshield tinting done by guys on the audio sites I frequent. Now, after seeing pictures of cars with front side windows tinted (here in CA, front sides are illegal too-so I don't have them done...for now) I've noticed even the slightest front side window tint looks weird with the windshield so clear. IMO at least.
Which is why I want to do the windshield and front sides 50%. It will give them a nice, barely there smoke, but with the front 3 windows being all the same shade, it won't be as noticeable.
