California limit is 70%. I'm going for 35% and going less will **** the cops off because they think you are "disrespecting" them.

Not to thread jack but does anyone recommend tinting the windshield lightly?

You realize the higher the percentage, the more light is let through?

Tinting the windshield is illegal in all 50 states. Tinting the front sides is illegal in CA. I'd do the windshield and front sides 50% though, as 50% is barely noticeable and when the 3 of those windows would be done the same color/percentage, it would be less noticeable, but all 3 would give it a nice smoke. Then tint the rear 3 probably 15%. I have 20 on my car now and it's not dark enough for me. But my mom has 5% on her Focus and it's a little too dark at night.

Nope, I thought the % was the amount of light blocked . . . I thought 20% was lighter than 30%, but I guess I had it backwards, thanks for clarifying!

If it's the amount that comes through, then "20% all around" must have been a joke, right?

No, everything but. I have a strip of 20% across the top of the windshield. Works great. I used to do a 5% rear / 20% front mix, but the 20% all around is a much better look IMO.

I'm now thinking about 20% all around and 50% on the windshield + a 20% strip across the top.

My shop uses LLumar tint and I have seen that alot of people are choosing 20% with that particular brand.

Looks like the OP got his answer so now it's OK to hijack this thread (instead of creating a new one), right?

So I found out that here in Mass. 35% is the maximum tint (meaning lowest number) that is allowed . . .

So my next question: is "Solarguard" a good tint product to use? The local Ziebart shop tells me it is a "high performance metallic" that will not turn purple over time . . . I have read that metallic tints can interfere with electronics (like cell phone or GPS?) but they tell me it will not be a problem . . . they charge $200 for all the windows (except the windshield) which seems pretty reasonable.

The tint on my car currently is a Llumar lifetime warranty film in 20%. Very nice and has held up for over 2 years without any issues.

In NY the law is 75% max on driver and passenger front windows and any level darkness in the rear. Since 75% or lighter would be pointless, I went all out and did 20% all around. I was thinking of doing 10% in the rear window but I was afraid it would be too dark too see at night. Your tint looks very nice but IMO I totally would've gone darker on a white car.

I attached some pics for comparison.

I originally did want to go darker, but the installer kind of talked me out of it. I didn't want to go black, but I did want a noticeable tint. I think this is around 30% right now, so that's good enough for me.

I have no idea what mine is... but next time I'm in the area of the tint outfit I'll stop and ask. Looks similar to me. Very noticeable when you're standing next to it. Dealer had it done pre-sale...

20% is too dark imo. It doesn't flow well with the windshield. I think 35% is perfect.

Pretty sure that's what ended up on my side windows with 20% on the back window.

I like it.

what tint product?

rather than start a new thread I thought I'd try redirecting this one a little --

What are the best tint film materials / products to use?

I see Overboost suggested Llumar . . . one local shop uses "Solarguard" metallic . . .

Are there really any problems with metallic tint film blocking electronics reception such as cell phones?

I've read that "ceramic" film is the way to go; suggestions or comments on that?

thanks in advance!

I have 15% all around with just 5% strip at the top of the front windshield. I need it with the south Florida sun.

Yes. Lower the number, the darker the tint. Last time i checked, Tennessee had 35% as the darkest you can go. Each state has their own tint % laws.
