Getting into 2nd smoothly

To the OP. Take a look at where your RPM's are when you first start in 2nd. Now when you shift from 1st to 2nd, notice where the RPM's have dropped to and when 2nd engages, watch where those RPM's "lurch" to. What you need to do is rev matching. Try revving your RPM's up to where your 2nd gear engages and then slip the clutch. It'll be smooth as butter
Many people only think of rev matching during downshifting. But many times, you also need to do it with upshifting. Especially if you have more aggressive gearing.

I will definitely give that a try tomorrow! I'm pretty used to rev matching while downshifting but never really considered it while up shifting. It makes perfect sense though. Thanks a lot!

Haha I'm starting to see its my error which is ok, I wanted to make this thread to find out exactly!! I usually shift around 3000-3200 rpm. If its under that usually skip shift engages and wants to lock out 2nd gear

The MGW retains the reverse lockout exactly the same as the stock shifter, push shifter down, left, forward
Couldn't agree more. Almost 4k on my 2013 and not one issue with shifting any of the six gears. Love it.
